A few more Game 2s are still on the agenda in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs as two teams will attempt to prevail in the second round while the other two teams hope to force a crucial Game 3.

(6) DALLAS WINGS vs. (3) CONNECTICUT SUN (Sun leads 1-0)

Led by reigning league MVP Jonquel Jones, The Sun dominated Thursday night’s opening game of the series. Connecticut jumped forward in the first quarter and led by 10 points at halftime. They refused to let up in the second half, scoring 25 points in the final quarter and taking home a 93-68 win.

Five Sun players ended up in double digits in Game 1. Jonquel Jones led the team with 19 points while Alyssa Thomas hit a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dijonai Carrington came off the bench to drop 13 for Connecticut.

Dallas star guard Alisha Gray led her team’s offense and scored 17 points while bench Tyasha Harris had 13 points.

The Sun is now one win away from winning a playoff series for the third time in five postseasons.

(5) WASHINGTON MYSTICS vs. (4) SEATTLE STORM (Storm leads 1-0)

  • Time: 4:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Climate Pledge Arena (Seattle, Wa.)

As in the regular season, the Mystics and Storm went head-to-head in Game 1 last Thursday. The lead changed hands several times over the period, with Washington going by a narrow 42-40 lead in the second half. Despite taking the lead in fourth place, the veteran Storm beat the Mystics 22-18 for an 86-83 win.

Although Breanna Stewart led the Storm with 23 points and 12 rebounds and grabbed a double-double, Jewell Loyd made some big shots in big situations and scored the win with 16 points. Gabby Williams and legend Sue Bird also had at least 10 points, with Williams scoring 12.

A valiant effort from Elena Delle Donne did everything to give the Mystics a shot at victory, leading all players by 26 points. Natasha Cloud and Ariel Atkins also had solid performances, dropping 16 points each.

Seattle is now trying to win a playoff series since winning the championship two years ago.
