USA ended Sunday’s group game with a 3-2 win over Sweden, ending Group B with a 4-0-0-0 record and securing first place.

It was a group effort for the Americans, who are aiming to win their first consecutive gold medals at the World Juniors. Thomas Bordeleau leads the team with seven points as the Sharks draft pick has one goal and six assists en route to the quarterfinals.

Behind is his linesmate Carter Mazur, who has four goals and two assists, and Matt Coronato, who also has four goals and two assists.

Goalkeeper was the biggest question mark to come into the tournament but Kaidan Mbereko answered the call. In three games started, he is 3-0-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and a .939 save rate.

The Czech Republic stumbles into the quarterfinals and concedes an angry loss to Latvia. A win would have secured third place and a better quarterfinal game for the Czechs. Instead, Latvia overtook them for third place in the group and the Czech Republic now has to face the USA. The team won just one game in the preliminary rounds, a 5-4 win over Slovakia.

Jan Mysak leads the Czech Republic with five points and has three goals and two assists so far. Michal Gut and Stanislav Svozil each have three.
