What you should know

The Iowa Hawkeyes have been 7-0 up against the Illinois Fighting Illini since October 2015 and have a chance to continue that success on Saturday. Iowa and Illinois will face off in a Big Ten battle at 7:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium. These two teams averaged few points (the Hawkeyes 10, the Fighting Illini 8.4), so any points scored are well-deserved.

Iowa came up short against the Michigan Wolverines last week, losing 27-14. Iowa was down 20 to zero at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Nobody had outstanding play for Iowa offensively, but they did get points from TE Luke Lachey and RB Kaleb Johnson.

Meanwhile, Illinois put in an easy job with the Wisconsin Badgers last week, earning a 34-10 win. The matchup was all but complete by the end of the third, by which time the Fighting Illini had established a 31-10 advantage. RB Chase Brown and QB Tommy DeVito were among the key playmakers for Illinois, as the former had 25 carries for a TD and 129 yards, and the latter amassed 167 passing yards in addition to three rushing touchdowns.

Iowa is expected to lose this next one by 4. Those picked against the spread last week should keep in mind that the team has yet to lose consecutive games against the spread this season.

A few defensive numbers to keep an eye on before kickoff: The Hawkeyes rank third in the nation when it comes to touchdowns allowed, with just five in the season. But the Fighting Illini are even better: They compete with three players with the fewest touchdowns allowed in the nation. We’ll see if that lead gives Illinois a path to victory.
