Immanuel Quickley latest Knick to experience ankle injury during Game 3 loss to Heat – New York Daily News

MIAMI – Another day, another sprained ankle.

Immanuel Quickley was the last player of that series to suffer the dreaded foot twist, limping off the field in the fourth quarter of the 106-85 Game 3 loss to the Heat.

The backup guard didn’t show much swelling in the dressing room afterwards, but the immediate aftermath left Quickley in agony on the pitch.

The Knicks could have another ailing contributor in Immanuel Quickley, who is the last to go down.

“It hurt a lot,” he said.

Quickley wasn’t sure of his status for Game 4 on Monday.

“I don’t know,” he said. “We will see.”

With about six minutes remaining and the Knicks 19 behind, Quickley pushed possession away from heat center Bam Adebayo in the color. Adebayo dived for the loose ball and undercut Quickley’s legs, who luckily avoided a knee injury.

The Knicks called a time-out and Quickley limped into the locker room, where he stayed until the game was over.

“We will know more [on Sunday]said coach Tom Thibodeau.

After becoming a sixth Man of the Year contender, Quickley was a disappointment in the playoffs, shooting just 34.8% overall and 24.3% from beyond the arc. His struggles continued on Saturday while missing 8 of his 12 attempts.

“I do not know if [Miami] done everything differently,” Quickley said. “Go back and watch the film, see where we can get better offensively. See what we did well, see what we need to work on. I thought I got some good looks. But like I said, go to the movie room and get better.”

New York’s bench was outscored by Miami’s 32-25.

“Defensively we have to get better,” said Quickley. “I know they jumped on us early and went on a 9-0 run. Duncan Robinson got a 3 straight away [for Miami]. They got offensive rebounds. I just have to be better off the jump.”

A small scuffle broke out in the final seconds of the third quarter. Julius Randle and Cody Zeller battled for a rebound that got hot when Zeller added a shove at the end.

Isaiah Hartenstein stormed onto the stage to urge Zeller. Caleb Martin pushed Hartenstein. It wasn’t a Heat-Knicks fight in the 1990s, but it still resulted in three technical fouls (two against the Heat, one against the Knicks).

“I will protect my teammate no matter what,” said Hartenstein. “I saw [Zeller] Push Julius down and no matter who it is, I will always protect my teammate. I thought that was necessary at the time.”

Randle, who had confused it with Zeller on previous holdings, called the situation “irrelevant.” After the players got separated, Jimmy Butler started dancing on the court.
