Immobile fires Lazio to Bologna win – Sporting Life

Ciro Immobile fired Lazio to a 2-1 win over Bologna on Sunday in a thrilling Serie A season opener that both sides finished with 10 men.

Italy striker Immobile scored the crucial goal with 11 minutes remaining to complete a comeback that seemed unlikely as the hosts lost a man in the fourth minute.

Goalkeeper Luis Maximiano was sent off for a handball outside his own box and Maurizio Sarri’s men were a goal behind after two more errors by Alessio Romagnoli and Mattia Zaccagni in the 38th minute.

A poor save from defender Romagnoli, signed from AC Milan in the summer, saw Zaccagni attempt to swipe the ball away, only to instead kick Nicola Sansone and award a penalty that Marko Arnautovic pocketed.

Lazio were evenly matched at the break after Adama Soumaoro received two bookings within five minutes at the end of the first half.

And in the 68th minute they equalized thanks to Lorenzo De Silvehorrorstri’s own goal. The Italian watched in horror as goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski tapped a cross from Manuel Lazzari at him and then rolled into his own goal.

Lazio were on the rise and it came as no surprise when the club’s all-time top scorer scored the winner after being passed through by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Elsewhere, Cremonese were denied a point in their first Premier League game since 1996 after a mistake by Ionut Radu in the fifth minute of added time gave Fiorentina a 3-2 win.

Goalkeeper Radu, whose terrible mistake for Inter Milan helped AC Milan win the Serie A title last season, somehow managed to carry Rolando Mandragora’s cross into his own net.

Matteo Bianchetti’s equalizer in the 68th minute gave Cremonese hopes of a draw, although Gonzalo Escalante’s red card for a nasty foul on Christian Kouame would have reduced them to 10 men for more than half the game.

But Radu’s terrible mistake inflicted a crushing defeat on the league’s newcomers.
