Is Ted Lasso season 3 the last one? Latest on potential Season 4, spinoffs of Apple TV series

Apple TV hit series Ted Lasso returns for a third – and, yes, final – season (we think), while Jason Sudekis gears up to helm AFC Richmond for another 12 episodes.

Beginning in March 2023, Apple TV will air one episode per week for two months until the finals in late May, concluding (for now) the story behind the former American football head coach-turned-football executive.

The show revolves around the title character Ted Lasso, who moves from Kansas to the UK with no football experience to coach the fictional club AFC Richmond. Lasso learns the game on the fly, stumbling on many occasions, but relies on his upbeat personality and relationship-building skills to overcome the many challenges that come his way.

The sports news contains everything you need to know about season 3 of the show, as well as everything we know about the possibility that more Ted Lasso is to come, either in the form of an additional season of the main show or spin-off content that the various Supporting characters could follow a main role.

How many seasons does Ted Lasso have?

Ted Lasso is currently scheduled for three seasonsand nothing more.

The hit series on Apple TV was not renewed or renewed for further seasons. However, it’s clear that given the show’s popularity, the streaming service has a real choice to make, as everyone involved has indicated they are giving the show long, hard thought about the future possibilities.

Still, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudekis hinted that there will be a meaningful conclusion at the end of season three. “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we hoped to tell, that we loved to tell.” Sudeikis revealed in an interview with Deadline in early March 2023. That echoes his sentiment from two years ago when he told Entertainment Weekly the same thing in June 2021.

Sudekis would go on to say that while this was the original plan from the start, the show’s popularity may lead them to create additional content once the season is over. At the moment, however, nothing is finalized beyond the show’s third and currently final season on Apple TV.

Will there be a fourth season of Ted Lasso?

At the time of Season 3’s release, there is no plan for a Ted Lasso Season 4, but various people have admitted the plan could change.

Jason Sudekis, who is the show’s lead and plays the title character Ted Lasso, has revealed that while they stuck to their original three-season plan from the start, the show’s popularity may prompt them to give up think about it once season 3 is released.

British actor Jeremy Swift, who plays AFC Richmond staffer Leslie Higgins, admitted “no one knows” if there will be more Ted Lasso seasons. “Literally everyone is asking that,” Swift said in an interview with The Express last November, “and I think the only person who can answer that is Jason. And I don’t think even he knows it.”

Along the same lines, actress Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, owner of AFC Richmond, said she asked Sudekis about the possibility of more Ted Lasso seasons and got a similar opinion — probably, but you never know. “I asked him [Sudekis] recently,” Waddingham told E! News. “And he was like, ‘Yeah, I think so. And I said, ‘OK’.” Adding that she wants more, Waddingham said she was “really disappointed” that the show is ending after three seasons.

When does Ted Lasso end?

The finale of Ted Lasso’s third season – which serves as the series finale, at least for now – will be released on Apple TV May 31, 2023.

The episode, which is one of three in the 12-episode season yet to have an officially released title, will bring Ted Lasso to a close and end one of the most popular US shows of the past three years.

Will there be a Ted Lasso spinoff?

No additional Ted Lasso content has been officially announced as of yet, but star Jason Sudekis admitted there could be some in the future.

“Yeah, I think we’ve set the table for all sorts of people to see the continuation of these stories,” Sudekis said in his March interview with Deadline when asked about the possibility of spin-off content. “Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us who worked on the show tried to do. It’s really nice of people to even consider that because you never know what’s going to happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different path, is nice.”

Depending on how the story ends at the end of Season 3, some characters could be primed for additional spin-off content. A fan favorite and main spin-off candidate could be Coach Beard, played by actor Brendan Hunt, who has carved his place on the show into a more visible position as an American football fan.

Other characters being considered as candidates for spin-off content are Roy Kent, AFC Richmond midfielder-turned-coach played by Brett Goldstein; Jamie Tartt, the hot-headed AFC Richmond forward, played by Phil Dunster; Nathan Shelley, the former AFC Richmond kit man played by Nick Mohammed; and Keeley Jones, the head of marketing at AFC Richmond, played by Juno Temple.
