Jennifer Lopez leverages ‘sad Ben Affleck’ Grammy memes
Jennifer Lopez was able to avoid the online discourse surrounding her husband Ben Affleck “Sad” Appearing at the Grammy Awards just so long. On Thursday, the singer resorted to the viral memes to promote the Oscar winner’s latest project.
Lopez took to Instagram to post Affleck’s new Nike film “Air,” which released a trailer on Thursday by posting a clip that reads “My Husband’s Happy Face.”
Of course, Affleck didn’t look happy at all in said clip, which showed him playing Nike co-founder Phil Knight. He didn’t look happy last Sunday either, as can be seen from the plethora of memes and gifs he inspired during the awards show, which his wife presented.
But apparently the “Argo” actor-director and the Grammy-nominated “Let’s Get Loud” singer were having a blast, according to additional photos from the show and a placeholder that eventually joined the newlyweds’ table within Crypto .com joined Arena.
Unfortunately, Julie Phan, a UCLA cognitive sciences major, couldn’t hear anything the power couple said, but took note of Bennifer 2.0’s behavior during the show. This behavior appeared increasingly “miserable” during several cutaways of the television show, and was showcased in the background of one of host Trevor Noah’s monologues. That particular clipwhich fans interpreted as Lopez telling her husband to behave sent the internet into a lip-reading spiral.
“The whole time I was with J.Lo, I just noticed that they were very loving to each other,” Phan told BuzzFeed. “There was no bickering or fighting. He hugged her and everything. I think at one point they showed PDA to a point where I just look the other way. They weren’t making out or anything, you know. Just really warm to each other.”
Entertainment Tonight reported that Affleck and Lopez were aware of the latest desperation memes he’d inspired but didn’t care that he was getting the viral treatment. Lopez reportedly found some of them pretty funny, eh they absolutely were.
“Jen and Ben are aware of the circulating memes of Ben,” a source told the publication. “She showed him some photos that night and he just dismissed it. He is undeterred by what the internet has to say about him.”
Representatives for the couple did not respond to The Times requests for comment.
