Joseph Suaalii rugby union contract: Roosters star confirms 2025 code switch

Sydney Roosters star Joseph Suaalii has officially made the move to rugby union.

The superstar teenager had been tipped off on a mega deal with Rugby Australia in recent weeks with reports The Daily Telegraph Declaring the explosive outer ridge would bring in $1.6 million a year.

Suaalii is still under contract with the Tricolors until the end of 2024 but has informed the club that he will leave at the end of his current contract to return to his roots in the 15-man game.

The Samoa international excelled at schoolboy level and will now be pushing for a spot on the Wallabies side once he makes the leap and signs with the NSW Waratahs.

“The Sydney Roosters have been great for me and my family since I’ve been here and the club will always be a big part of me,” he said.

“I still have a long way to go on my journey with the Roosters and my only focus is to work hard every day to keep improving and fulfilling my role for the team.”

Premiership winner Luke Keary believes the 19-year-old could have a massive impact at Union, comparing him to two-time international Sonny Bill Williams.

Roosters manager Trent Robinson said the club understood the great reputation of their brightest young player.

“Joseph has been transparent with the club and we respect his decision,” he said.

“He has made a crystal clear commitment to the Roosters Club for the next year and a half and we’re excited about the path we’re on.”

When is Joseph Suaalii going to rugby union?

Joseph Suaalii will officially make the leap into the 15-man code after the 2024 NRL season.

The teenage sensation remains at the Sydney Roosters until the end of next year and has expressed his desire to give something back to the club.
