Kate wins latest sporting battle against William in spin class

The Prince and Princess of Wales showed their competitive side again on Tuesday as the royal couple got into the action during a visit to Aberavon Leisure Center in South Wales.

William, 40, and Kate, 41, took the opportunity to take a spinning class at Port Talbot Sports Center as the pair competed in the Tour de Aberavon challenge.

Kate stripped off her sleek cream coat and hopped onto the spin bike in her £19.99 Zara skirt and heeled black boots, while William, calm and confident, held up his suit jacket for the 45-second contest.

The other classmates cheered for both the Prince and Princess of Wales, but it was Kate who ultimately emerged victorious in the short – even strenuous – sporting challenge.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are visiting communities and several mental health initiatives in South Wales ahead of St David’s Day, which takes place on March 1st, and visited the Aberavon Leisure Center to showcase how sport helps improve mental health can.

Their Royal Highnesses started their busy day with a visit to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center to launch their latest initiative: setting up therapy gardens to offer mental health support across South Wales.

Kate and William have long worked to emphasize the importance of mental health services. Through their Royal Foundation, they launched the “Heads Together” campaign with Prince Harry in 2016.

The initiative is a joint effort between the couple’s Royal Foundation and a social enterprise called Life at No.27, which uses horticulture and counseling to improve the mental health of its service users.

During their stay at Brynawel Rehabilitation Centre, Prince William and Kate visited the site which will be used for the new therapy facility which will include a sensory and herb garden, a mud kitchen and an interactive learning room.

The Princess of Wales got involved in the allotments and helped plant seeds for a flower called ‘Sweet William’.

Her last appointment that day was a visit to Air Ambulance headquarters in Llanelli, where it was announced that Prince William will become the Royal Patron of the Wales Air Ambulance charity, his first Welsh patronage since he last held the title of Prince of Wales year.

Prince William has seen himself piloting the East Anglian Air Ambulance. the impact that first responders have on the lives of their patients. His new patronage will see the prince remain committed to the efforts of those working on the front lines and the importance of supporting their mental health.

“The Prince has first-hand experience of working in the unique and often challenging environment of air ambulances,” said Sue Barnes, Chief Executive of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, of William’s appointment.

“His work, along with the Princess, to highlight the need for mental health support for frontline emergency workers is appreciated and wholeheartedly supported by our charity. We look forward to our new relationship with the Prince as our charity continues to support a life-saving service to the people of Wales.”

The couple will spend St David’s Day in Windsor on Wednesday – the first since William and Kate became Prince and Princess of Wales – when they watch the Welsh Guards parade, as is royal tradition.

It will be William’s first time meeting the Welsh Guards since becoming colonel of the regiment and part of his new role will be to hand out leeks to the officer and guardsman who then passes them on to the rest of the regiment .
