Leeds United vs. Chelsea live score, updates, highlights & lineups from Premier League clash at Elland Road

Chelsea and Leeds United have each got off to a solid start to the Premier League season, but both Thomas Tuchel and Jesse Marsch will think it should have been even better.

After a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day, Leeds led 2-0 in Southampton last weekend before being held to a 2-2 draw.

Tuchel’s explosive touchline spat with Tottenham Hotspur opponent Antonio Conte stole the headlines at Stamford Bridge, arguably diverting undue attention from the fact that Chelsea led twice and dominated for a long time but failed to finish the job.

The Blues will be on the sidelines at Elland Road with their one-match ban temporarily suspended as an FA investigation continues where another lively atmosphere is expected.

The Sporting News follows the game live and provides live score updates and commentary.

Leeds vs Chelsea live updates, highlights from Premier League clash

26 minutes: Sterling molests Koch again and the Leeds defender can only scoop a clearance for Cucurella, whose cross is erased. The hosts struggled to get out in the last few minutes.

22 minutes: A good header from Havertz and Mount makes the Leeds defense step back. The England star shoots a left-footed shot at the near post but Meslier comes down sharply to fall backwards.

20 minutes: Rodrigo skips the Chelsea offside trap and runs away from goal, firing a shot back over Mendy’s far post. It was only half a chance, but that’s all the in-form Spaniard needs at the moment.

15 minutes: GOOAA… no. Nice feet by Sterling and no mistake with the finish this time. But Koch started in time and was ruled offside.

13 minutes: Havertz pinged offside. The Germany international hasn’t really done much of note so far, but his mere presence as a central attacker gives the Chelsea forward chain a more dynamic look than in the first two games of the season.

9 minutes: No matter how high the much-discussed bar is set this season, that’s a yellow card. Koulibaly into the book for pulling the Livewire Aaronson back and pulling him over. Leeds make this uncomfortable for Chelsea.

7 minutes: Struijk then got to a bouncing ball first and Loftus-Cheek came a fraction late. Apparently quite a lot of loftus cheeks are late and that looked like a painful blow. However, the Leeds defender is free to continue and the Chelsea man only gets a talk from the referee.

5 minutes: Switching out Sterling to his favored role at left flank certainly looks like it could pay off. The former Man City man rejoins and possession is processed via Havertz to Loftus-Cheek. The full-back is crowded and it’s a corner Mount can’t get past first man.

4 minutes: Leeds are trying to set a typically frenetic pace and Harrison gets a ball in a similar range to the Sterling chance earlier. There is more defensive body for Chelsea, however, and Mendy collects his shot.

1 minute: Early open for Sterling overcoming some challenges. It’s a trademark but he can’t quite find the target, his shot curling over the far post. Gallagher pushed through the pass to start this attack.

55 minutes after kick-off: Leeds also make a single change, with Dan James replacing the injured Patrick Bamford and starting alongside the in-form Rodrigo Moreno in attack.

1 hour from kick-off: There we have it. N’Golo Kante is injured, so Gallagher starts alongside Jorginho in central midfield. It’s Tuchel’s only change from the Spurs game, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek keeping his place.

1 hr 10 mins from kick-off: There have been some rumors circulating online that Conor Gallagher could be in line for his first Chelsea start. If that comes in the frame of central midfield two, it would certainly help shift the team’s attacking balance.

1 hour 20 minutes from kick-off: Aside from the Conte soap opera, Tuchel will take a lot of positives from a 2-2 draw with Tottenham that his side should have won. After an uneven preseason, the Blues have started the season strong. However, they are currently lacking a bit of cutting edge. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have both left and none of their goals so far this season have come from three starters Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. We are 20 minutes away from knowing if Tuchel has decided to reshuffle.

1 hr 40 mins from kick-off: So anyway the Carry-on last weekend, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be on the sidelines after the FA “temporarily suspended his one-game ban. Jesse Marsch, at least, is more the shy and reserved type…
