Ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez dedicated his last goal at Gremio to Lucas Leiva after the former Liverpool midfielder was forced to retire from football.

Lucas announced on Friday that he was finally retiring from the game due to a heart condition, causing the Brazilian to burst into tears as he shared the news at a club press conference.

It looks like a summer of big changes at Liverpool and midfield isn’t the only area of the pitch that could potentially see an overhaul.

The Reds could also look to shake up their defense by allowing at least one of their four senior centre-backs to leave and according to Football Insider, that could mean a departure from Anfield for Joel Matip.

Sources claim that the Reds plan to let clubs know that the former Cameroon international will be available for a transfer at the end of the season.

The report says a large sum of £10m-15m could be enough to make deals for the 32-year-old, whose history of minor injuries has disrupted his run at Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ibrahima Konate is believed to be Liverpool’s future at the heart of the rearguard alongside Virgil van Dijk and with Matip’s contract running until 2024 it could be time to cash in.
