Long delays after police incident on the M60 near Trafford Centre – latest updates

Long delays are currently occurring on the M60 near the Trafford Center following a “police-led incident”. The anti-clockwise section of the road between exits 10 and 9 was temporarily closed, according to Highways England.

Since then it has reopened.

The nature of the incident is unclear.


In a tweet, Highways England said: “Traffic will be temporarily closed on the #M60 counterclockwise between J10 and J9 nearby #Manchester due to a police-led incident. There’s a one-mile traffic jam on the way to the incident.”

In an update, they wrote: “Update: The #M60 is now close counterclockwise between J10 and J9 #Manchester following a previous police-led incident. There are remaining delays of 45 minutes beyond the usual travel times.”

Updates after the reopening of the Autobahn – Queues at exit 12

Long delays and queues due to a previous incident on the M60 anti-clockwise from J10 B5214 Trafford Boulevard (Trafford Centre) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park). Traffic jam on J12 (Eccles Interchange).

Unknown how long the closure will remain in place

The National Highways Advice reads: “National Highways have resources that support traffic management.

“Due to the nature of this incident, we are unable to say how long the closure is likely to remain in place.

“If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow additional time for your journey.”

Motorists are advised to follow the hollow detour symbols on road signs.

  • Exit the M60 at J10 anti-clockwise.
  • Take the 3rd exit onto the B5214 southbound.
  • At the B5214/B5258 (Davyhulme Circle) roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the B5158.
  • Rejoin the M60 at J9.

The incident continues to cause heavy traffic

National Highways began releasing information about the incident just after 6 p.m., and the road was announced as fully closed around 6:35 p.m.

Inrix transport service has issued this warning: “All traffic temporarily halted, severe delays and congestion due to a police incident on the M60 anti-clockwise from J10 B5214 Trafford Boulevard (Trafford Centre) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park). Traffic jam on J15 (Swinton Interchange).”
