Sources in Portugal have detailed how much West Ham were willing to pay Matheus Nunes before the Sporting Lisbon star turned down their advances.

Nunes has been widely advised to leave Sporting this summer after a great season with the Portuguese side in 2021-22. The central midfielder is clearly too good for the Primeira Liga and several Premier League clubs are keen to court him.

Both Liverpool and Leeds rate Nunes highly and they could reportedly place bids for him before the transfer window closes.

Amidst these rumours west ham is said to have made a £25million bid for Nunes on Friday morning. That was well below Sporting’s £42m valuation of the star, as well as the £51m release clause in his contract.

Sporting would likely not accept the proposal given their demands. But even if they agreed, Nunes has no plans to join David Moyes’ side.

According to that Daily mail, Nunes turned West Ham down as soon as he heard about their offer. It seems he doesn’t want to drop out of the Champions League, which West Ham can’t offer as they are set to compete in the Europa Conference League this season.

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, Moyes was asked about the approach for Nunes.

He answered (above The Athletics West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas): “We bid for him but he chose not to come.”

The Scot also debunked all rumors that West Ham are interested in Barcelona striker Memphis Depay. “It’s not us,” he said when asked about the Dutchman’s move to a Prem club.

West Ham are ready to triple Matheus Nunes’ wages

Following Moyes’ confirmation that West Ham had made an offer for Nunes and pushed back, reports have revealed the financial terms they have put on the table.

Corresponding sports witnessquote the Portuguese newspaper recordingWest Ham were ready to triple Nunes’ weekly wages.

However, that failed to persuade Nunes to join as he is prioritizing a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs next.

He’s preparing to “take on a competitive project” where a team will compete for trophies.

Nunes has yet to receive an offer worth considering. Liverpool could change that, although Jurgen Klopp claims the Reds will not be making any more signings this summer.

Meanwhile, Nunes needs to continue to shine at Sporting before possibly continuing next summer. He has made one appearance so far this season and got an assist in the 3-3 draw with Braga.

Sporting won’t have to lower its asking price any time soon. The Portugal international has four years left on his contract which means Sporting can still demand top dollar next summer.

In the meantime, West Ham show serious interest in Spezia defender Jakub KiwiorAccording to reports.
