Madden 23 celebrations: How to do the Griddy, showboat and more

Madden 23 is here, bringing numerous changes to the popular video game series. This includes celebrations that have long been a staple of the franchise – especially in multiplayer.

So, yes, you can do the griddy in Madden 23 – along with a host of other pre- and post-touchdown celebrations and showboating moves.

This year’s edition features several new showboat moves before crossing the goal line. Once a touchdown is scored, players have even more options (although it appears the previous “swag” celebration has been removed).

The Sporting News has everything you need to know about the Madden 23 celebrations and taunts you love to perform:

Can you do the griddy in Madden 23?

Yes, you can do the griddy in Madden 23. The dance move has become very popular after Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase popularized the move, so there’s no way the Madden franchise would let that out of their latest game.

Here’s confirmation from the Madden NFL 23 Twitter account that the move will be the focus of touchdown celebrations:

So how do you do it? It appears that it’s only available as a “Signature Move,” which you can perform after a touchdown by pressing the Right Stick left.

However, there is a catch. It appears the move only applies to three players at this time: Jefferson, Chase, and DJ Chark (all receivers who played at LSU).

Here’s a video showing how to perform the griddy, with slight variations between the three players featured:

How to celebrate in Madden 23

The post-touchdown celebrations remain mostly the same, although it appears the “swag” celebration option has been removed judging by Early Access videos.

It remains to be seen what types of celebrations there will be in Madden 23, but at least the controls appear to be the same. As in Madden 22, mass celebrations only appear to be available for NFL stadiums set up for this option. In such cases, it appears that the prompt will replace the “spike” celebration.

Either way, the game features an instant post touchdown that lets you choose a specific celebration based on which direction you move the right analog stick:

  • team celebration: Right stick
  • Dance: Right stick right
  • Spike/Crowd Celebration: Right stick down
  • Signature Celebration: Right stick left

How to show a showboat in Madden 23

Nothing demonstrates your dominance over an opponent quite like celebrating in the middle of the game, especially when you’re on your way to a touchdown.

Madden 23 has returned to the previous controls for showboating, meaning you can no longer just hold L2 + X (Playstation) or Left Trigger + A (Xbox) and expect to party. You now have to hold both back buttons on the controller and hold X/A to really stick it to your opponent.

Here’s a more vision-oriented way to see how to do showboat:

Of course, no showboating arsenal is complete without a joyful leap into the end zone. Madden 23 has slightly tweaked these controls as well, so players just need to hold Square or X (Playstation or Xbox respectively) to jump in.

It appears that Madden 23 has added several in-play Showboat animations. Here’s a demonstration from Stranger Plays on YouTube:

That’s the baseline—at least for now. Now get out there and taunt.
