Man United vs Fulham live score, updates, highlights from FA Cup quarter final

OLD TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER (AP) — Manchester United are looking to continue their quest to win all available trophies this season when they host Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

After winning the Carabao Cup in February and reaching the bottom eight of the Europa League, the Red Devils are bidding for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley in June. They could yet win an unprecedented quadruple of trophies, although their chances of lifting the Premier League title are slim at best.

Standing in their way at Old Trafford is a side from Fulham who are enjoying a good season under Marco Silva. Ninth in the league table and just three points off the top six, the Cottagers are in an unlikely quest for Europe.

League games may usually take precedence, but the chance of progressing to the FA Cup semi-finals is a chance they’ll be sure to jump at.

Man United vs Fulham live updates, highlights from FA Cup

48 minutes: Good saves, David de Gea! The ball breaks friendly to Willian, who puts it in the penalty area for Antonee Robinson. His right shot is tipped over by the United goalkeeper. After the corner is half clear, Willian shoots powerfully from the edge of the box, but De Gea shoves it around the post.

46th minute: We’re back on the road at Old Trafford. Man United have been something of a second-half specialist in recent weeks – can they do it again?

HT: That was a pretty rowdy end to a pretty rowdy half. Fulham will be happier with their game but United made the best of the few chances they had.

45 minutes: Chance for Scott McTominay! Good connection between Wout Weghorst and Jadon Sancho sees the midfielder with a shot from 12 yards but he takes an extra touch and the ball is blocked at the back. The corner is wasted.

40 minutes: Lisandro Martinez makes a bloody but fair challenge to Aleksandar Mitrovic to stop the Fulham striker on the edge of the box. On the other side, Marcel Sabitzer gets a lucky shot and tries his luck, but the shot goes straight to Bernd Leno.

32 minutes: First notable chance for Marcus Rashford, who comes on from Marcel Sabitzer. However, he has a tight angle on goal and Bernd Leno makes a good block, the ball then bouncing back off the United striker and behind him for a goal kick.

26 minutes: Harrison Reed breaks through a few challenges and tries to play Aleksandar Mitrovic. The forward puts his leg over Lisandro Martinez and goes down, but the referee says play on. That was a good decision.

21st minute: United clear an Andreas Pereira free-kick but no one seems to know who to chase the loose ball. It comes back and Harry Maguire is booked to wrestle Aleksandar Mitrovic to the ground. However, the guests do not succeed in the free-kick routine.

Incidentally, Maguire would now be suspended for the semi-finals should United progress.

16 minutes: Lisandro Martinez shoves the ball wide after a loose pass from Marcel Sabitzer and immediately signals the United players to calm down. They looked ragged early on, with Fulham being a lot sharper.

13 minutes: Jadon Sancho cleverly delays a pass and then releases Marcus Rashford at the break. He finds Wout Weghorst, but the big striker’s shot with his weaker foot is tame and easily parried by Bernd Leno.

9 minutes: Man United have a period of possession but Fulham break and Aleksandar Mitrovic sets up Willian to shoot wide. There is a break in play after the Brazilian knocked down Bruno Fernandes – it looked painful for the United star, who hit an elbow in the ribs.

3rd minute: Fulham started brilliantly, a couple of crosses from the right leading to corners through a clearance from Scott McTominay and a save from David de Gea.

1st minute: We are on the way! It’s not quite a full house here in the stands – even the Fulham section has empty seats – but there’s still a good atmosphere. “We want Glazers out” can be heard straight away from the Stretford End.

5 minutes before KO: Here are the teams on the pitch. They now know that with today’s win they will face Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-finals at Wembley next month.

40 minutes before KO: Usain Bolt is here to watch this game. There’s a joke about getting a quick start off the blocks, but I’ll save that for later – after all, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

1 hour before KO: Manchester United start with club captain Harry Maguire in defense alongside Lisandro Martinez. Raphael Varane is missing from the squad; Erik ten Hag told MUTV the defender has a “minor injury” and should be back after the international break.

For Fulham, Joao Palhinha returns from suspension and Andreas Pereira starts against his old club.

1 hour 30 minutes before KO: Man United have played 25 FA Cup Quarter-Finals at Old Trafford since the end of World War II. One of these was against Fulham in 2004 when Ruud van Nistelrooy scored twice to seal a win from behind. United won the trophy that year, beating Millwall in the final when a teenager named Cristiano Ronaldo made his mark at Wembley Stadium.

1 hour 45 minutes before KO: In the pre-match programme, Erik ten Hag writes: “There’s no denying that we’ve had a very hectic schedule since the World Cup, so I have to acknowledge and respect the hard work that the entire team has put in during that time.” As if to underline the point, the United manager wrote those words during a brief respite ahead of Thursday’s 1-0 win over Real Betis in Spain.

Since the World Cup final on December 18, United have played 24 games in all competitions in 88 days. That’s a little more than one game every three days on average.

2 hours before KO: Manchester United and Fulham are playing their last games before the international break today. A place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup is up for grabs.
