Michael Gallup Injury Update: How long will Cowboys’ WR be out?

Gallup said in July that playing in Week 1 of the regular season isn’t a viable option. according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. The 26-year-old wide receiver was unsurprisingly added to the active/PUP list to open camp last month, and while unlikely to be ready for Week 1, he should return sometime in September. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Gallup is looking really good and hasn’t missed a mark yet. per walk.

When the veteran wide receiver returns to the field, he will be either the Cowboys’ #2 or #3 wide receiver, depending on how rookie Jalen Tolbert plays. Gallup plays on a pass-heavy offense, giving him numerous opportunities to play a role in fantasy football this season as WR3 or play for more with the topside.

Michael Gallup Fantasy Ranking and ADP

Heading into the 2022 season, SN Fantasy ranked Gallup 41st in standard formats and 42nd in PPR formats. When healthy, Gallup is a major threat and has the ability to play multiple 100-yard plays and receive more than seven goals per contest.

In 2020, Gallup had just two 100-yard reception performances but had 13 games of five or more goals. He also produced three games of 10 or more fantasy points in standard leagues. If you had him in a standard league, Gallup’s production this season was entirely dependent on the touchdown. However, he made quite a splash in the PPR leagues – releasing seven games with double-digit fantasy points.

FantasyPros has Gallup’s ADP at #145 overall and WR59. The other recipients projected around Gallup are Tolbert (WR58), DeVante Parker (WR60), and Jahan Dotson (WR60). All of these receivers will likely go into the later rounds of fantasy drafts and be used in the flex spot. Gallup has more advantages once he’s on the field.

Michael Gallup’s fantasy outlook for 2022

If Gallup can return within the first month of the regular season, he’ll be targeted early and often by Dak Prescott. Right now, the Cowboys’ top two receivers are CeeDee Lamb and TE Dalton Schultz, with Tolbert likely having a decent target share as well.

Gallup has averaged 48.3 receptions for 725.5 yards and 3.8 touchdowns per game in its first four seasons. The Cowboys need to fill the void left by Cooper and Wilson, who combined for 165 goals last season. Gallup could easily hit a third of those goals, which would bring him to 117 goals if you add that to last year’s stats (62 goals).

2022 FANTASY THRESHOLDS:
QB’s | RB’s | WRs | TEs | D/STs | One from each team

Gallup only played nine games last season, but he still managed to have eight games with five or more goals. If you’re playing in a PPR or half-point PPR league, Colorado State’s former wideout should see an increase from its previous value, as we can only assume that without Cooper or Wilson, its goal share will increase.

RANKING 2022 & DRAFT STRATEGY:
QB’s | RB’s | WRs | TEs | D/STs

If Gallup can return by Week 3, he will have plenty of time to be productive, meaning he’s likely to surpass his 145 ADP. In our standard WR rankings, Gallup is surrounded by Julio Jones and Christian Kirk. Jones and Kirk could have great seasons, especially if they’re in new offenses. However, Gallup could be a good bet to be among the top picks drafted as WR3. He can expand the field and be productive if he can clean up his drops.
