NFL betting odds, predictions, betting picks for preseason Week 3

Week 3 of the NFL preseason kicks off tonight with two games (Packers-Chiefs, 49ers-Texans) and with that comes some compelling odds and potentially profitable betting opportunities. The remainder of the preseason begins this weekend with four games on Friday, eight games on Saturday and two games on Sunday.

With NFL teams having to reduce their rosters to 53 men by Tuesday, August 30, Week 3 of the preseason offers numerous players the opportunity to make or lose a roster spot. It’s not always the most aesthetically pleasing viewing experience, but betting on pre-season undoubtedly makes the games more worth watching.

Below we look at Caesars Sportsbook’s current preseason week 3 odds and see if any potential bets stand out as particularly good values.

Best NFL Preseason Week 3 Bet vs. Spread: Ravens vs. Commanders

Ravens vs Commanders Spread

  • Commanders +6.5: -110 (implicit probability 52.38 percent)
  • Ravens -6.5: -110 (implied probability 52.38 percent)

Best Bet: Commanders +6.5 (-110)

Yes, the Ravens are considered the best team last season, but against a Commanders team with competent QB space, a 6.5-point spread is a bit steep. Everyone and their bro knows the Ravens don’t lose preseason, but let’s tune out that narrative and grab Washington and the points (and a +240 Moneyline sprinkles for those brave enough).

The Commanders lost 24-14 to the Chiefs last week and failed to cover as underdogs at +5.5 points. That box score is a bit misleading considering Kansas City scored 14 of their 24 points while Patrick Mahomes was in the QB. Without Mahomes, the Kansas City backups weren’t doing much, and Washington outplayed the Chiefs 14-10 after Mahomes’ departure.

While Tyler Huntley is one of the best backup QBs in the league and is capable of giving the Ravens a similar start to Mahomes, Huntley won’t be playing during “cover time.” Rookie QB Anthony Brown will be the man under center late in the game and at this point you can’t quantify the Ravens coming close to a TD favorite. Baltimore almost let Arizona out the back door last Sunday night, and there’s a good chance the commanders will come out the back door on Saturday.

With this preview being released on Thursday morning, there’s a chance the Commanders will get to +7 or better before kick-off. In this case, it may be beneficial to wait until post time to redeem your commander’s spread bet.

Best over/under bet in week 3 of the NFL preseason: Colts vs. Buccaneers

Colts vs. Buccaneers over/under

  • Over 40.5: -110 (implicit probability 52.38 percent)
  • Less than 40.5: -110 (implied probability 52.38 percent)

Best Bet: UNDER 40.5 (-110)

The Colts-Buccaneers total is currently the second-highest over/under on the board at 40.5, and while the Colts’ offense has impressed in the first two weeks of preseason, they could expect a rougher offensive performance against Tampa Bay. Fourth-string QB Jack Coan could get more playing time, with Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles well above him on the depth chart and entering the final cuts.

Nothing against Coan, but the more snaps he plays, the more chance there is of this game going UNDER. Moreover, the Buccaneers’ offense is now just a shell of what it will be in the regular season. Second-year QB Kyle Trask will see the majority of snaps and post a 1:2 TD-to-INT ratio on 57 pass attempts. Make sure offenses are consistently sitting out and don’t convert TDs in the red zone.

Other Worthwhile Preseason Week 3 Totals: Browns Bears UNDER 40.5, Ravens – Commanders BELOW 39.5
