Nicola Sturgeon flagged ‘difficult’ days after man’s arrest

Nicola Sturgeon faces fresh calls to quit the Scottish National Party (SNP) after leaked video shows the former First Minister dismissing financial concerns.

Leaked footage from an SNP NEC meeting in March 2021 showed Ms Sturgeon issuing a stern warning to her top officials to be “very cautious” about suggesting that there were “any problems” with party accounts.

Ms Sturgeon also reportedly blocked plans to hire a fundraising manager for the party when she was leader and first minister, despite concerns about transparency, leaked emails released by Scotland’s Sunday post seemed to show up.

Scottish Labor Deputy Leader Jackie Baillie said Mr Yousaf should suspend both Ms Sturgeon and her husband Peter Murrell while the police investigation continues.

“This bombastic disclosure shows how central Nicola Sturgeon was to the secrecy and culture of cover-up festering within the SNP,” Ms. Baillie said.

The latest revelations follow the shock arrest of Ms Sturgeon’s husband and a search of the couple’s Lanarkshire home during a police raid.

Peter Murrell was later released without charge while police continue to investigate the party’s finances.

Reports that Nicola Sturgeon plans to retire as an MSP are just “empty speculation,” according to the SNP’s former Westminster leader.

The Daily Telegraph quoted a source within the party as saying she plans to step down “sooner rather than later” amid a controversy over the party’s finances that led to her husband – and the party’s former chief executive – being fired from the Police arrested and was subsequently released without charge.

Speaking to the BBC, Ian Blackford said: “I think what you have seen is idle speculation taking place.
