One was taken to hospital after a man crashed into a car
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said:
“Just before 12.30am today (Monday) police received a report of a collision on Whitley Road, Whitley Bay.
“It was reported that a car had collided with a 62-year-old male pedestrian. Rescue workers were on site and the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. He has since been released. The driver stopped at the scene and assisted the police.”

Queues on Askew Road
Congested traffic on the A184 Askew Road Eastbound at A167 Tyne Bridge Approach. The journey time is ten minutes.

Subway ticket acceptance
Tube tickets are accepted on the Go North East and Arriva bus services between Monkseaton and North Shields as the line remains closed today.

Heavy traffic on Jesmond Road
A1058 Jesmond Road inbound busy but moving ahead of A167(M).

No tube between Monkseaton and North Shields
No Tyne And Wear Metro operations between Monkseaton and North Shields due to storm damage at Whitley Bay.
A limited bus replacement service is in operation, but local buses are recommended where possible.

The Met Office says:
Mostly cloudy with drizzle and patches of mist remaining over the western hills. Dry elsewhere, with some brighter spells, especially towards the east coast. Strong winds slowly decrease throughout the day and remain mild. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Congested traffic on the A167 Newcastle Road Southbound around the A690 Neville’s Cross Bank.

Traffic is slow on the A194(M) and A194 Leam Lane in both directions at the A184 Newcastle Road (White Mare Pool roundabout).

Hourly forecast for Monday and Tuesday
Monday is forecast to be an overcast and overcast day in the North East, according to the Met Office.
Temperatures will remain between 13°C and 10°C. Looking ahead to Tuesday, it will remain a largely cloudy day but with some spells of sunshine around midday and highs of 11C.

There are delays on the A184 Westbound Felling Bypass around the A185/B1426 Shields Road at the Heworth traffic lights.

Heavy traffic on the A1 Western Bypass
Congested traffic on the A1 Western Bypass northbound around the A167 Angel Of The North coming from Chester-le-Street. The journey time is 15 minutes.

No metros between Monkseaton and North Shields
There are no trains running in either direction between Monkseaton and North Shields until further notice after high winds caused damage to Whitley Bay tube station.
A replacement bus service is in operation.
