Specifically, here we’re going to focus on how to change your BattleTag. If you’re on PlayStation or Xbox and want to change your name for all your games in those formats, that’s a different discussion.

Your BattleTag is your name in all Blizzard games including Overwatch, WoW, and Diablo – so you might already have one. As long as your accounts are connected, your BattleTag will follow you across platforms.

How do you change the name then? Well, the first step depends on whether you have changed it before or not. You see, everyone is allowed one free change of their BattleTag per account.

If this isn’t your first time, you’ll need to purchase a BattleTag change from Blizzard. It costs around $10 or £8 and is available on the Battle.net Store.

Go to the store and select “BattleTag Change” under Services from the drop down menu that says “Browse”. You will then be taken to the store page where you can purchase some change.

Once you’ve purchased it (or if you have a free one), go to your Battle.net account page. From there, go to “Account Details” and then scroll down to your “BattleTag” – you should see an “Update” link with a pen on the right.

Click on it and you will be prompted to change your name. If you can’t think of anything, you can click Randomize and one will be suggested to you. Make sure you choose something that follows Blizzard’s naming guidelines – nothing offensive and no spaces allowed.

Make sure you’re happy with it, though, because regardless of whether you click “Change Your BattleTag,” that change will be locked — and you’ll have to buy another if you want to change it again. You can also click Cancel to change your mind.

Once that’s done, et voila – you now have your new BattleTag name. Don’t worry about telling your friends you’ve already won; as they will be automatically updated with your new name.
