Overwatch 2 Will Launch With Cross-Progression, Here’s How To Make Sure Your Account Is Ready

After years of fans yearning for a way to merge their Overwatch profiles across different consoles, Blizzard is finally adding cross-progression to the popular first-person hero shooter. With the addition of this feature, players will gain access to all of their in-game cosmetics and stats no matter what platform they are playing on. The merger will officially go into effect on October 4th – the same day that Overwatch 2 launches – although those looking to take advantage of the cross-progression can enable the feature starting today.

Merging your various Overwatch accounts into one comprehensive profile is as simple as logging into any of the systems you play on. Once logged in, you should be immediately prompted to identify, select, and confirm the accounts you want to merge. Players can merge one Account from any of the following platforms: Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Once you complete these steps, Blizzard will prepare your accounts for syncing. However, be warned that if you don’t follow the steps to merge your profiles when prompted by the game, you will lose the ability to do so at a later time. Additionally, after merging a console account, you cannot link to another console account on the same platform.

All players wishing to merge their accounts must have a Battle.net account, which in theory you should already have if you’ve previously played Overwatch. Once you choose to merge your accounts, all of your cosmetics and cross-system progress will be saved to that account, which will then share the content with your system profiles.

After your accounts have been successfully merged, all the in-game cosmetic items you accumulated while playing Overwatch will be waiting for you in your Hero Gallery. This includes all sprays, emotes and skins. If you have duplicate cosmetics, they will be merged into one item.

However, how your competitive ranking and overall stats are evaluated is not quite as simple. Competitive and skill ratings are separated by PC and console entry pools, with the highest rank awarded when players merge multiple console accounts. Credits, league tokens and totals – like game time or number of wins – are combined from all profiles. Endorsements and Best Stats – including Hero Accuracy and Killstreaks – take the highest stat from the merged accounts. All in-game achievements earned on each platform will carry over to your merged account, although console-specific achievements will remain tied to their respective platforms.
