Peterborough United 2-0 Derby County

Nathanael Ogbeta scores for Peterborough
Nathanael Ogbeta’s goal was his first for Peterborough since going on loan

Peterborough clinched a crucial victory in the League One play-off race by beating promotion contenders Derby County.

Second-half goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Nathanael Ogbeta settled the battle, bringing Darren Ferguson’s men within a point of the top six.

The Rams, starting four points ahead of their hosts, delivered the only shot on goal of the first half when Conor Hourihane was denied by Posh keeper Will Norris’ boot.

But it was a different story after the break when Mason-Clark blasted an opener past county keeper Joe Wildsmith in the 52nd minute after being selected by a Jack Taylor pass.

Ogbeta, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Taylor were then all denied by clever Wildsmith saves.

Substitute Tom Barkhuizen squandered Derby’s best chance of equalizing when he nodded a cross from Louie Sibley from close range just over the goal.

And that proved costly as a second goal from Posh arrived moments later in the 82nd minute as Ogbeta pocketed his first goal for the club after Kwame Poku was kept away from Wildsmith.
