Port Stephens Sporting groups get funding injection

Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington presents her share of the funding to members of the Port Stephens Outrigger Canoe Club.

MEMBER for Port Stephens Kate Washington announced last Friday that 11 sports clubs across Port Stephens have secured a $50,000 share of the NSW Local Sporting Grant scheme.

This funding will allow local sports groups to purchase new equipment, host events or upgrade facilities.

Rugby league, baseball, football, rugby union, cricket, rowing, bowling, athletics and equestrian teams will participate in the $50,000 funding.

“Sport is at the heart of our community, so I’m excited to be able to support local clubs in offering the sports we love,” said Ms. Washington.

“New equipment, programs and facilities will help clubs continue their important work in our communities.

“Some groups will use this funding for Come and Try days to give newcomers the opportunity to try a new sport, make new connections and build trust.”

Nelson Bay junior rugby league football receives $5,000 to train coaches and team staff.

The Seaham Storm Baseball Club will receive $2470 in training aids and safety equipment.

The Salt Ash Pony Club receives $2400 for a Pony Club Mini Camp.

Nelson Bay Football Club will receive $2,050 to host a come and try day for junior players.

Fingal Bay Rugby League Club awarded $5000 for goal post upgrade

Port Stephens Outrigger Canoe Club will be awarded $5000 for equipment.

Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Union receives $5,000 for its Get Into Rugby program.

Port Stephens Cricket Club will be awarded $2490 for five sets of cricket covers.

Raymond Terrace Bowling Club will be awarded $4,860 to replace sand and pins on its synthetic greens.

Medowie Football Club will receive $7,200 for a “Come and Try” day for women and girls.

Port Stephens Athletic Club will be awarded $6665 for equipment including hurdles, mats and timers.

“I congratulate all of these clubs on their successful applications and thank the thousands of local volunteers who bring the sport to life in Port Stephens,” said Ms. Washington.
