RCMP, Legion present as delegates at latest Ponoka council meeting

Sgt. St. Cyr presented to the Ponoka Council during its March 14th meeting. Cyr reported the third quarter statistics for the local police. His presentation to the Council showed crime statistics in the region and comparative figures from recent years.

Earl Peavoy, President of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Barb Olson, Vice-President, informed the council that their organization has decided to sell its current building.

Peavoy and Olson explained that the Legion was looking for a smaller, more affordable venue. They believe that the old library building could be a suitable choice. The delegation asked for the Council’s assurance that the Legion would have priority over the building if it were available for sale or lease.

Cemetery Rules

With the delegations gone, the Council turned to the outstanding issues related to Cemetery Regulations No. 477-23.

The discussion focused on updating various parts of the bylaws, including changing spouse to partner. The amended charter would also include the deletion of a policy dealing with the resale of cemetery land.

CAO report

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Sandra Lund presented her report to the Council.

Lund’s report focused on the clearing of the municipal holding ponds in preparation for the spring thaw and the 51 Avenue construction schedule.
