Real Madrid will look to equal the record for UEFA Super Cup victories when they meet German club Eintracht Frankfurt in Helsinki for the 2022 title. It would be Madrid’s fifth-ever triumph in the summer European flagship, which pits the Champions League winners against the Europa League winners.
But Eintracht Frankfurt will look to spoil Madrid’s party, as they did with other European powers in the Europa League Cup bid last season. The Bundesliga side edged out another Spanish giant, Barcelona, along with England’s West Ham and Scotland’s Rangers to win the Europa League, thereby securing a spot in the one-off Super Cup.
Eintracht Frankfurt prevailed in European competition last season, although they struggled in the Bundesliga table where they finished 11th. A hefty 6-1 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga opener last weekend does not bode well for Eintracht supporters, but they are hopeful the team can continue to flick the switch on the continental scene.
Real Madrid open their La Liga season against Almeria on Sunday, but they have played three high-level friendlies ahead of the Super Cup. Carlo Ancelotti’s side had mixed results in those games, finishing in a 2-0 win over eternal Italian rivals Juventus.

Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt predicted lineups
Carlo Ancelotti has developed a consistent starting line-up over the past year and that is unlikely to change for this UEFA Super Cup game. Karim Benzema missed the first few games of the preseason due to an extended summer vacation, but he’s back and ready to lead the line.
Despite the arrival of Aurelien Tshouameni This summer it’s all about big money, the central defensive midfield is there Casemirowill lose at this point while Tchouameni will have chances to impress from the bench.
First off, that’s likely Federico Valverde however, will start on the right wing like last season and late last year Marco Asensio has played well in this summer’s Tuneup matches and could be looking for time on this flank.
Expected starting line-up for Real Madrid (4-3-3, right to left): Courtois (GK) – Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy – Modric, Casemiro, Kroos – Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
The biggest question for Eintracht Frankfurt this week is playmaker status Filip Kostic, who was instrumental in last season’s European success. He is heavily linked with a transfer to Italian club Juventus and whether or not that move is finalized ahead of kick-off in Helsinki, the club might not want to risk it if transfer talks progress.
Kostic would likely be replaced by a young winger Farid Alidoua 21-year-old Germany youth international who arrived this summer after his Hamburg contract expired.
Hoping to take over playmaking from Kostic in the long term, the Frankfurt newcomer is in the summer Mario Götzethe former Germany World Cup hero arrived during the current transfer window from Dutch club PSV, where he has spent the last two seasons relaunching his career.
23 year old wanted Randal Kolo Muani taking a shot off the bench as a striker in the starting XI Rafael Borre has problems. The versatile French youth international was one of the few bright spots for Eintracht Frankfurt in last weekend’s 6-1 win against Bayern Munich.
Estimated starting line-up of Eintracht Frankfurt (3-4-2-1, from right to left): Trapp (GK) – Toure, Tuta, Ndicka – Knauff, Rode, Sow, Alidou – Lindstrom, Götze – Borre.

Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Selection & Prediction
Real Madrid depend on the presence of talismanic striker Karim Benzema to score goals and last season’s three games were proof. The Frenchman started straight away on his return from an extended summer break and Real Madrid benefited when he was back on the field.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt conceded six goals against Bayern Munich at the weekend and the departure of now-retired Austrian centre-back Martin Hinteregger has left a void that Almamy Toure are trying to fill. Frankfurters’ league struggles last season weren’t reflected in their Europa League run, but this is a new season.
These two teams seem naturally inclined to score goals and the Super Cup is a game that seems primed for goals. In the last 10 editions of the single-elimination match, only one team has kept a clean sheet: Real Madrid in their 2-0 win over Sevilla in 2014. The odds also point to goals scored.
- Choose: Both teams to score (-139 on DraftKings)
- Forecast: Real Madrid 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
