Return to Monkey Island: How to get the eyepatch

Slip back into Guybrush Threepwood’s well-worn pirate boots Return to Monkey Island will surely bring back memories for those who have faced his previous adventures around Monkey Island. Despite all the achievements Threepwood has to his credit, there are still many challenges to overcome in his latest pirate-themed adventure. One of the first hurdles you’ll encounter is trying to get an appropriate disguise to board LeChuck’s ship and really get your adventure off the ground.

The only thing your ensemble is missing to blend in with the pirate crew is an eye patch, but not just any regular one will do. You need a magical one that can only be found in the Museum of Pirate Lore. This is a nice introductory puzzle to help old players get started with the adventure game format, while also being a good starting point for players unfamiliar with these old classics. How to get the eye patch

The eye patch is one of two items you must obtain before you can exit the Melee Island starting area. This eye patch once belonged to Jon Lanay and is now kept in the Museum of Pirate Lore, but of course you can’t just go up and grab it. Here’s how to get your hands (or eyes) on it.

Step 1: Go to Maps-n-More and grab one of the free monocles.

Step 2: Exit the store, but immediately go back inside and grab a second monocle.

Step 3: Combine the two monocles in your inventory to create a mega monocle.

Step 4: Visit the Museum of Pirate Lore.

Step 5: Go to the case with the eye patch and use your mega monocle on the lock.

Step 6: Take the cracker mix from the storage room.

Step 7: Exit the museum and walk to the High Street.

Step 8: Go to the locksmith and tell them the number you got from the lock.

Step 9: After she gives you the key, give her the cracker mix in exchange for some crackers.

Step 10: Back at the museum, use your crackers on the safety parrot.

Step 11: Unlock the case with the key and take the eye patch.

How to charge the eye patch

As already mentioned, this is not an ordinary eye patch, but a magical one. Or at least it was. However, it needs to be charged beforehand.

Step 1: Go to Mojo International House.

Step 2: Show the eye patch to Voodoo Lady and she will tell you to get the “bite of a thousand needles”. (Buy a knife if you haven’t already).

Step 3: Go into the forest past the museum.

Step 4: Collect a sample of the carnivorous plant.

Step 5: Take the sample back to Voodoo Lady and she will charge the eyepatch right away.
