Sethu FC beat Eastern Sporting Union; Odisha FC, Kickstart register wins

Sethu FC Madurai made short work of Eastern Sporting Union’s 3-0 win in Group B of the 2023 Indian Women’s League at the TransStadia on Friday. Sethu has won all four group stage games so far and is top with 12 points. In the four games, the Madurai side have scored 20 goals and conceded only two goals.

On the other hand, Eastern Sporting Union, former champions of the IWL, suffered their second consecutive loss in four games. They won their other two games.

Naorem Priyangka Devi put Sethu FC ahead in the 24th minute. Sumati Kumari and Kiran Pisda scored Sethu’s second and third goals in the 60th and 87th minutes respectively.

Odisha FC drives past Churchill Brothers

Odisha FC were ruthless against the hapless Churchill Brothers with a 10-0 win in a Group B tie at the Shahibau Police Stadium.

A brace each from Ngangom Bala Devi, Karishma Oram, substitute Malati Munda and goals each from Jasoda Munda, Karthika Angamuthu, S. Lynda Kom and Faustina Worwornyo Akpo helped Odisha FC finish second in the group with nine points from four games to stay B .

Churchill Brothers FC are yet to register a point having conceded 28 goals in four games so far. In the previous game, they lost to Kickstart FC by an identical margin.

Kickstart FC wins, CRPF holds

Karnataka’s Kickstart FC consolidated their position in Group B as they were defeated 4-1 by Lords FA Kochi at the Shahibau Police Stadium. With that win, they climbed to third place in the group with 9 points from 4 games. Lords FA Kochi sit sixth with just one win.

Goals from Kioko Elizabeth Katungwa, Saru Limbu, Laishram Bibicha Devi and Sonia Marak helped the Karnataka side to a convincing win over the Kochi side after leading 3-1 at half-time. Lords FA’s only goal came from a first-half penalty by Camille Rodriguez of the Philippines.

Celtic Queens FC scored their first point as they held Central Reserve Police Force Football Club 2-2 at the TransStadia.

The tie for CRPF meant they sit fourth in Group B with seven points from four games, one point ahead of Eastern Sporting Union.

After Mangpineng Khongsai put Celtic Queens ahead in the 39th minute, CRPF responded with two quick goals from Nisha (45′) and Ritu (48′). But Celtic’s Kayenpaibam Anju Chanu struck a brilliant left-footed strike from 20 yards out to restore the equalizer in the 56th minute.
