While many see Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and Princess Beatrice as royal style influencers, Prince Edward’s wife Sophie has emerged as a fashion icon in her own right.

Edward, the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, received a gift from King Charles III on his 59th birthday. the title of Duke of Edinburgh, making Sophie the new Duchess of Edinburgh.

Since marrying in 1999, Sophie – known as the Countess of Wessex before her title change and born Sophie Rhys-Jones – has elevated her style from ’90s PR pro to elegant senior royal.

While Sophie’s previous looks may not get as much attention as her more recent outfits, this black mini she wore to a fundraising dinner in 2014 was certainly a fashion hit. She complemented the lace bodycon dress with black pumps and a statement green necklace.

The Duchess seemed to be following Kate Middleton’s style guide as she donned a chic light blue coat while attending the 2019 Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. She paired the belted style with a blue floral Emilia Wickstead dress underneath, and added slouchy black boots, black gloves and a pillbox-style hat.

She pulled out all the stops to celebrate her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, during a platinum anniversary service, wearing a beautiful rose gold dress by Suzannah ($3,350). The flutter sleeve dress featured a striking bow detail at the back and she paired it with a matching fascinator.

Royal Ascot 2019 brought another elegant look for Sophie, who wore a pink floral midi dress by Emilia Wickstead as she cheered on the ponies. She leaned into the chintz and wore a wide-brimmed hat that had the same print under the brim as her dress.
