While many see Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and Princess Beatrice as royal style influencers, Prince Edward’s wife Sophie has emerged as a fashion icon in her own right.

Edward, the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, received a gift from King Charles III on his 59th birthday. the title of Duke of Edinburgh, making Sophie the new Duchess of Edinburgh.

Since marrying in 1999, Sophie – known as the Countess of Wessex before her title change and born Sophie Rhys-Jones – has elevated her style from ’90s PR pro to elegant senior royal.

From elegant shirt dresses to fabulous fascinators, the Duchess of Edinburgh knows how to strike the perfect mix of conservative and trendy, and has worn stylish but relatable outfits to her royal engagements over the years.

Sophie wore a beautiful blue ensemble with ruffled bib detailing to the Royal Ascot in June 2022, matching her lace dress with a huge floral-trimmed hat. She’s embraced the monochromatic theme with coordinating heels, a snakeskin-print clutch and glittery blue earrings.

Bold in black

While Sophie’s previous looks may not get as much attention as her more recent outfits, this black mini she wore to a fundraising dinner in 2014 was certainly a fashion hit. She complemented the lace bodycon dress with black pumps and a statement green necklace.

Royal Wedding Glam

The proud aunt attended Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May 2018 while wearing a textured blue crop top and satin skirt from one of her favorite labels, Suzannah. She added neutral accessories and topped the look with a feathered Jane Taylor hat for the happy occasion.

Dreamy flower show

The Queen was a vision in white as she wore an ethereal midi dress to attend the 2018 Chelsea Flower Show. Sophie paired the loose, bat-style dress with nude accessories, including the same clutch she wore to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding days earlier.

Sparkling in green

Commonwealth day chic

The mother-of-two took home key style points for Commonwealth Day 2020 when she wore an elegant ivory dress with a navy blue tie that accented the skirt. She paired the dress with a matching navy blue fascinator with a mesh veil, as well as matching pumps and a navy blue clutch.

Bundled at Sandhurst

The Duchess seemed to be following Kate Middleton’s style guide as she donned a chic light blue coat while attending the 2019 Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. She paired the belted style with a blue floral Emilia Wickstead dress underneath, and added slouchy black boots, black gloves and a pillbox-style hat.

Platinum Anniversary Pink

She pulled out all the stops to celebrate her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, during a platinum anniversary service, wearing a beautiful rose gold dress by Suzannah ($3,350). The flutter sleeve dress featured a striking bow detail at the back and she paired it with a matching fascinator.
