Sporting KC announces radio broadcast partners for 2023 Major League Soccer season

Sporting Kansas City on Monday announced new media partnerships with Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM, who will continue to be the club’s English and Spanish language radio partners, respectively.

Both radio stations will produce live broadcasts for all of Sporting Kansas City’s games during the 2023 Major League Soccer season, which begins tonight when Sporting take on the Portland Timbers at 9 p.m. CT at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, the Sports Radio 810 WHB broadcast audio will be available as an option for fans in the US and Canada to select Sporting KC home games streamed on the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Sports Radio 810 WHB commentary is led by play-by-play voice cast Aly Trost Martin and analyst Jacob Peterson, with additional guest analysts joining the shows throughout the season. Trost Martin has been reporting on the club for Sports Radio 810 WHB since 2019 and served as a reporter alongside the team from 2021-2022. Peterson, a 12-year MLS veteran, including five years with Sporting KC, has called up every Sporting game in the past three seasons and joined the club’s technical staff in 2022.

Trost Martin will also co-host the weekly Sporting KC Show on Sports Radio 810 WHB with Nate Bukaty, as well as the station’s Final Whistle post-match show. Sports Radio 810 WHB’s daily programming will also feature regular interviews with Sporting KC players, coaches and executives, highlighted by Willy Agada, Erik Thommy, John Pulskamp and Peter Vermes, who all attended the shows last week.

Sports Radio 810 WHB is America’s largest all-sports radio station, covering over 42,000 square miles in portions of five Midwestern states (Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma). In addition to having the largest sports radio signal in the country, Sports Radio 810 streams live 24/7 on 810whb.com and listeners can tune in via the Sporting KC app, as well as the Sports Radio 810 and ESPN Radio apps.

Sports Radio 810 WHB, locally owned by Union Broadcasting and operated in conjunction with ESPN Kansas City stations 94.5 FM and 1510 AM, has a more than 100-year history in Kansas City and is also a official broadcast partner of the Kansas Jayhawks and home of the NFL Playoffs, Super Bowl, NBA Finals, NCAA Tournament, World Series, College Football National Championship and Motor Racing Network. Since the opening game at Children’s Mercy Park, Sports Radio 810 WHB has been broadcasting Sporting KC games since 2011.

The La Grande 1340 AM commentary team consists of Diego Gutierrez, Emily Infante and Josue Orantes. Gutierrez is a 13-year MLS veteran, including six seasons at Kansas City, and the former MLS All-Star and US Men’s National Team midfielder has been called up to Sporting KC games since 2014. Orantes first joined the broadcast booth for La Grande 1340 AM in 2018 while Infante joined the commentary team in 2022.

Owned along with La X 1250 AM, Dos Mundos Radio 1480 AM and newspaper Dos Mundos by Reyes Media Group, La Grande 1340 AM is Kansas City’s premier Spanish radio station Tastes of first- and second-generation Mexican ancestors. Listeners can tune in via the Reyes Media Group app, which can be downloaded at lagrand1340kc.com, as La Grande 1340 AM’s rich history of broadcasting Sporting KC games dates back to 2007.

Sporting will begin the 2023 season away tonight against the Portland Timbers and the season opener will be broadcast live for free via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM. Sporting Kansas City’s home game schedule begins March 11 against the LA Galaxy at Children’s Mercy Park. Season tickets are available by calling 888-4KC-GOAL or at SportingKC.com. Additional ticket packages and promotions are available, as well as single match tickets for the club’s first eight home games of the regular season.
