Sporting vs Arsenal detailed team news

Hello everyone – Kostas here – and I’m going to bring you all the live action of the Europa League round of 16 clash between Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is facing quite the injury crisis in attack following Leandro Trossard’s groin injury against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Trossard’s injury is not considered serious but Arteta could still decide not to risk the striker while the north Londoner is in contention for the Premier League title.

As a result, the Spanish tactician can choose to start as a false nine, either Gabriel Martinelli or Emile Smith Rowe, who came on shortly after his substitution against the Cherries.

Arteta’s other forwards Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are still out with knee and ankle injuries respectively.

Mohamed Elneny is likely to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury of his own while Kieran Tierney is ill.

Reiss Nelson led Arsenal to an amazing comeback win over Bournemouth with a miracle goal and an assist so the winger is pushing for a start tonight.

Sports director Ruben Amorim, on the other hand, has to do without the suspended Manuel Ugarte.

Daniel Braganca is also still recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture and may need to be replaced in midfield by 19-year-old Mateo Tanlongo.

Amorim has no other significant injury problems but is unlikely to field Hector Bellerin against his former club

Arsenal’s star

Gabriel Martinelli is likely to start through the middle, with Trossard, Jesus and Nketiah absent.

And in what could be a rotated eleven, Martinelli may need to make the most of his chances in what could be a tight game.

Sporting’s Star

There’s a big reason Marcus Edwards will be ready for that event: he’s a former Tottenham player.

Working his way through the Spurs ranks for 13 years, he has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting wingers since joining Portugal in 2019, initially with Vitoria.

Team News

Sporty: Boss Ruben Amorim will hope that Dario Essugo recovers in time before the big clash with Arsenal.

Despite returning to training after tearing his cruciate ligament last July, it may still be too early for Daniel Braganca.

arsenal: Mikel Arteta will sweat over the fitness of Eddie Nketiah, who missed the Bournemouth thriller.

Leandro Trossard is also a question after being pulled off early on with a suspected groin strain.

However, super sub Reiss Nelson could get a chance right off the bat following his Cherries exploits.

Jesus and Mohamed Elneny are both on long-term absences.
