Rocksteady’s new game had a big showing at a new PlayStation State of Play showcase yesterday, debuting with new gameplay and tons of detail. One fact that has gotten a bit lost in the information overload is that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League always requires an internet connection to play, whether you’re playing solo or online co-op.
“An internet connection is required to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo or via online co-op”, the FAQ section of the Suicide Squad website (opens in new tab) reads and formulates it definitively and clearly so that everyone can read it. Although you can play the new game solo with three AI companions acting as other characters instead of players, you still need to actually be online.
Fan reactions to this new information have not been kind. You can see the following tweet as just an example of how many Suicide Squad fans are ranting about the online requirement, while another Twitter user writes, “I liked the look of Diana in the Suicide Squad game. Too bad it will be an online-only game.”

Suicide Squad is the latest game that always requires an online connection, even in single player mode. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Arkane’s Redfall is always online even in single player, prompting some fans to refrain from purchasing Arkane’s new game based on this information alone.
Obviously there are many potential Suicide Squad players who would rather be left alone to play the game without being connected online. Many fans are concerned that this is a repeat of the ill-fated Marvel’s Avengers, which also required being connected online at all times and for which the game’s creative director apologized to a support studio earlier this week.
Elsewhere on yesterday’s show, the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League battle pass was finally confirmed after much rumor and speculation, but Rocksteady assured fans it contained purely cosmetic items with no actual gameplay bonuses offered. There will also be an offer of free post-launch content for the new game, including new weapons, characters and more.
