Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa results: ‘Takeover 2.0’ begins with Lopez stopping Ciampa in seven

LAS VEGAS – The Takeover 2.0 is officially underway.

Teofimo Lopez made his debut at 140lbs by dominating and stopping Pedro Campa in the seventh round in front of 3,553 fans at Resorts World on Saturday night.

Lopez returned to action for the first time since November 2021 when he dropped the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring titles to George Kambosos Jr. The loss wasn’t without controversy: Lopez addressed health issues related to a battle with COVID and vowed to come back stronger when he returns.

“I was at 135 pounds for nine years,” Lopez said of his 140-pound debut. “It’s been killing my body since I was a teenager, man.”

That’s exactly what he did against Campa, and then he announced he would return to action on December 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) allowed Campa to be the attacker, repeatedly ramming power shots into his opponent’s face and body. Campa refused to back down and pushed forward, but he found himself on the wrong end of the 25-year-old’s power.

Lopez continued to land flush as Campa tried to find an opening. But Lopez was too sharp and too strong and his timing was flawless.

In the seventh round, Campa went into an opposing right hand followed by a left that put him on the canvas. Sensing the end was near, Lopez began to dance. But he did it on purpose; He used the move to lunge with a left hook that shook Campa. Lopez lunged at his wounded opponent and finished the job. Referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight at 2:14 of the round.

Lopez said afterwards that he’s aiming for a fight with combined titleholder Josh Taylor but is open to a fight with Ryan Garcia and one of the other young fighters who called him out.

“We want Josh Taylor,” Lopez said. “We want these guys. We want (Regis) Prograis. We want (Jose) Zepeda. We all want belts. We want to be two-time undisputed champions.”
