Tesmec Group at Mining Indaba 2023: latest smart mining solutions

Tesmec Group, a leader in the market for technologies dedicated to infrastructure for the transportation of power, data and materials, as well as technologies for quarrying and open pit mining, took part in Investing in African Mining Indaba.

Investing in African Mining Indaba aims to inspire change and drive investment in Africa. The company, longtime participant and sponsor of this event, took the opportunity to meet with the mining community and present their strategy, which focuses on automation and digitization.

The company wants to use the energy transition and sustainability trends to consolidate its position as a “solution provider” in the business areas in which it operates.

Tesmec Group’s focus and experience in the mining sector has resulted in relentless improvements to their range of dedicated surface miners, in line with the company’s approach to sustainability and vehicle automation. Tesmec surface miners offer a number of advantages such as: B. lower CAPEX and OPEX, the possibility of dedicated financing packages and a 24-hour on-site maintenance service.

On the technical side, the Rock Hawg range of surface miners can help stakeholders achieve better production than other techniques thanks to the elimination of primary crushing, the ability to dig into hard rock, the ability to dig vertical walls, the greater maneuverability and the ability to respond to site-specific requirements and a better environmental footprint.

Compared to other traditional methods, the Tesmec Rock Hawg line not only allows mining selection without material mixing from different strata, but also increases secondary crusher performance.

As part of its mining innovations showcased at Investing in African Mining Indaba, the company introduced the concept of “Smart Mining”: an evolution and integration of the range of digital machine control and management solutions.

The smart mining approach aims to provide a reliable and consolidated solution for the mining process through technologies such as teleoperation and autonomous vehicles.

These developments allow Rock Hawg’s range of surface miners to be controlled from a remote room, providing additional benefits in terms of cost reduction, maximizing productivity, on-board machine diagnostics and increased personnel safety.

One of the company’s most advanced technological features is the TrenchTronic: an electronic control system with modern and digital HMI, aimed at improving user-friendliness, increasing productivity and making it less dependent on the skills of the operator.

TrenchTronic, now in its fifth version (5.0), also enables advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on all Tesmec Trenchers and Surface Miners.

Another breakthrough technological feature, TrenchIntel is an automated GNSS guidance system capable of automatically maintaining and steering the required depth, pitch, speed and direction of travel. The integration between TrenchIntel and TrenchTronic 5.0 enables fully automated operation, including alignment control and automatic steering.

The Re.M (Remote Monitoring System) monitors machine condition, performance and other KPIs for optimal excavation results. It provides information on operation, predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization of maintenance operations and high service efficiency.

Last but not least, the TRC radio control system allows the operator to remotely control the machine, replicating most of the functions and information available in the cab.

The “smart digging” concept is not limited to the mining sector, but something much bigger and more inclusive. A goal that the Tesmec Group is pursuing with commitment and determination and will continue to pursue in the years to come.

As in previous years, Investing in African Mining Indaba proved to be an extremely successful and enriching event. The Tesmec Group would like to thank its team members and participants who attended this conference.
