The red carpet at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday night was packed with fashion-forward celebs. Stars like Zendaya, Gabrielle Union and more made an appearance for the awards ceremony in Pasadena, California, wearing sequins, ruffles and all the colors of the rainbow.
Among the night’s winners was Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary SchoolViola Davis for The Woman King and Angela Bassett for Entertainer of the Year, who cheekily referenced Ariana DeBose’s BAFTAs rap in her acceptance speech.

Zendaya wore a vintage Versace dress on the red carpet of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Her black and green dress was part of the fashion house’s Spring 2002 collection, her stylist Law Roach wrote on Instagram. The dress featured a sculpted bust and a plunging neckline, as well as a thigh-high center slit. She wore her hair in a retro-inspired style and topped off her look with black heels and jewels.
Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union wore a graphic Versace dress on the red carpet of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Styled by Jason Bolden, the actress and husband Dwyane Wade sported coordinated looks from the fashion house, although Union stole the show in her multicolored dress. Her strapless, ankle-length dress was embellished with sequins all over, and she completed her look with black heels and Bulgari jewelry.

Janelle Monae
Janelle Monáe wore a custom Cong Tri gown on the red carpet of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Monáe’s floor-length gown was styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn and featured a dramatic neckline at the side with a flattering ruching at the waist. The thigh-high slit allowed her strappy red heels to peek out at the bottom of her dress. The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Star also matched her lipstick with her dress and wore a bold shade of red.
Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett wore a white Greta Constantine jumpsuit on the red carpet at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Star, who was styled by Jennifer Austin, paired her look – which featured voluminous sleeve detail – with a silver clutch bag, Gismondi jewels and Brian Atwood heels.
Yara Shahidi
Yara Shahidi wore a haute couture dress by Giambattista Valli on the red carpet of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Her form-fitting mini dress had a ruffle at the hem and a cape-like train. The strapless maroon number also included long sleeves. Shahidi was styled by Bolden and completed the look with Christian Louboutin heels and Cartier jewels.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington wore a bespoke couture dress by Fendi for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards red carpet. The actress’ dress featured contrasting spaghetti straps and a ruched detail at her waist, as well as a thigh-high slit. Her stylist, Roach, wrote on Instagram, “If @mrkimjones says yes to the dress….” Her red carpet look was completed with silver and black heels.
Sheryl Lee Ralph
Sheryl Lee Ralph wore a dress by PISTIS Ghana for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards red carpet. Styled by her daughter, Ivy Coco Maurice, Ralph wore the multicolored kente dress with structured sleeves and a dramatic train. The fashion house wrote on Instagram: “No duty is more urgent than to say thank you. We are really grateful to @thesherylleeralph for wearing our dress to the @naacpimageawards and @ivycoco23 for styling it to perfection!”
Quinta Brunson
Quinta Brunson wore a silver Dundas gown for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards red carpet. Brunson was styled by Bryon Javar and turned heads in her statement dress. The strapless number was covered in mirrored detailing, giving the Abbott Elementary School Stars look like a disco ball sliding down the red carpet. She completed her look with shoes by Dolce & Gabbana and jewels by Jared Lehr.
Tracee Ellis Ross
Tracee Ellis Ross wore a Brandon Maxwell dress on the red carpet at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. The black dress featured a plunging neckline and a relaxed silhouette—plus pockets! Stylist Karla Welch completed Ross’ look with black Christian Louboutin heels and bold jewels.

Marsai Martin wore a Christian Siriano dress on the red carpet of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Her blue and black dress featured dramatic sleeve detailing and a bust cutout. Her stylist Javar added Effy and David Yurman jewels to complete the glamorous look.
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah wore several looks for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards including this burgundy Tony Ward Couture dress. While hosting the show, Queen Latifah chose this look as her third for the night. Bringing all the drama to the stage, the fully ruffled dress was a real winner from her stylist Jason Rembert.
Issa Rae
Issa Rae wore a custom made dress by AKNVAS for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards red carpet. Brought to life by AKNVAS Creative Director Christian Juul Nielsen, her lavender gown featured an oversized floral detail at her shoulder and a thigh-high slit. Her stylist, Roach, completed her look with sparkling Le Silla heels and dangling earrings.
Elarica Johnson
Elarica Johnson wore a Michael Costello suit on the red carpet at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. The metallic green number included flared pants and a tailored belted jacket. The actress matched her glamor to her disco-style outfit, opting for bright green eyeshadow and oversized hoop earrings.
Viola Davis
