As automakers scramble to reduce their fleet’s carbon emissions and join the electric revolution, the good news for consumers is that more and more electric cars are on the market.
Here are just a few slated to hit showrooms in 2023 that we think might be worth the wait.
BYD Atto 3
Chinese automaker BYD is already available in some European countries and plans to launch in more markets later this year.
The Atto, an affordable small SUV, has a 60.5 kWh battery, a range of 420 km and the latest battery technology. The cobalt-free blade battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and is said to be cheaper and 50 percent more energy dense than a traditional lithium-ion unit.
BYD has been making waves in Asia, and if they can keep prices low enough to lure buyers to a relatively unknown automaker, they could repeat that success in Europe.

Hyundai Ioniq6
The hugely successful Ioniq 5 is followed by an all-electric sedan from Hyundai with an all-electric range of up to 614 km.
The sleek sedan, which was unveiled late last year, is expected to hit European showrooms this summer, with a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and a standard or long-range battery.
Thanks to super-fast charging, you can add 351 km of range in just 15 minutes. Competing cars like the Tesla Model 3, the BMW i4 and the Polestar 3, the Ioniq 6 impresses with excellent safety scores and was awarded Best in Class in the Large Family Car category in EuroNCAP’s test.

Jeep Avenger
Jeep was one of the last automakers to embrace electrification, but the new all-electric Avenger could spark a renaissance for the American marque, and three more Evs are on the way before 2025.
Awarded the prestigious European Car of the Year 2023, it is powered by a 54kWh battery with 400km range on a single charge and charging speeds of up to 100kW.
Coming to European dealerships this spring, this small but mighty offering from Jeep has just the right mix of classic ruggedness and modern technology to win new fans for the brand.

Kia EV9
With nine new all-electric cars due out by 2027, Kia is charging ahead with new models, and the seven-seat EV9 is the next to join the lineup.
It is designed to take on rivals Range Rover, Tesla Model X, Mercedes EQB and Volvo EX90. It will be the first Kia model to be offered with Level 3 autonomous driving technology, which allows hands-free driving in certain conditions, although the driver must be prepared to take control if necessary.
With a range of over 500 km, off-road capability and futuristic design, Kia’s flagship SUV aims to make a splash as a well-equipped and affordable large family car.

Mercedes EQE SUV
Beautifully refined, sleek and packed with a dazzling array of technology, few EVs can match the EQE.
An SUV version of the executive sedan will be the next in an ever-expanding line of electric cars from the German automaker.
According to Mercedes, the luxury SUV can now be ordered in most European countries and has a range of over 600 km from a 90 kWh battery and will be equipped with the MBUX Hyperscreen, which was presented for the first time in the EQS.
The 141cm screen takes in-car entertainment to a whole new level, but comes at an equally impressive price.

Opel Astra electric
Opel’s first battery-electric Astra comes with a battery capacity of 54 kWh, a range of 400 km on a single charge and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes with a 100 kW DC fast charger.
The Astra Electric, which looks almost identical to its combustion engine counterpart, is one of the mainstream electric cars to launch this year, but its smart design, comfort and decent range will appeal to those in the market for one looking for an all-electric station wagon or hatchback.

North Star 3
Swedish electric vehicle brand Polestar will launch its first SUV with 360 kW all-wheel drive and a range of over 600 km later in the year. Can be ordered online now, deliveries are not expected to begin until autumn and perhaps not until winter.
As with other Polestar models, it features a Scandinavian minimalism design language on the outside, while on the inside all materials used are largely sustainable and it will be equipped with a Google-based infotainment system. Competitors are the BMW iX and the Model X from Tesla.

Tesla Cybertruck
Could this be the year we finally see Tesla’s long-awaited Cybertruck?
Four years after the prototype was first unveiled, no details of this angular truck are yet known, but Tesla expects it to accelerate from 0 to 100 in just 2.9 seconds and offer a range of up to 500 km.
Despite monumental delays and more than a million pre-orders, many potential buyers were no doubt relieved to see a “pre-production beta cybertruck” at Tesla Investor Day in February.
Production is slated to begin this summer, but it’s likely buyers will need to be very patient for that to happen.

Volkswagen ID.7
Sedans may be a shrinking sector, but the game is far from over for them, and VW will launch an all-electric four-door large sedan.
ID.7 is the sixth model of the ID. family and one of ten new electric cars to be launched by 2026.
With a range of more than 700 km on a single charge, sales should start at the end of the year. As competitors for the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4 and Polestar 2, a high-performance GTX variant and a station wagon version of the ID.7 are on the way.

Volvo EX90
Volvo has been at the forefront of automotive safety for decades and this year launches the EX90, the safest Volvo car to ever hit the road.
It will feature a unique set of eight cameras, five radars, 16 ultrasonic sensors and state-of-the-art LiDAR sensors. Sharing much in common with the Polestar 3, the all-electric luxury SUV will replace the Volvo XC90 and will have an estimated range of up to 600km.
The seven-seater luxury SUV will compete with cars like the BMW iX, Tesla Model X and Mercedes EQS SUV.
