. Netflix is easily the most prolific of all the major streaming platforms, offering great new options every week, including many originals you can’t find anywhere else. As a Netflix subscriber, that’s a great thing — but it’s also daunting. How do you keep track of all the new material?

The best new movies and series on Netflix this week

The Magician’s Elephant (2023)

Netflix certainly knows how important it is to offer family-friendly entertainment in the form of animation. Last year, The Sea Creature achieved an admirable performance in the top 10 on the charts and eventually received a Best Picture nomination. And it looks like the streamer’s best animated contender will be this year The Magician’s Elephant, a film about an orphan boy named Peter who goes in search of his missing sister. The film stars are Noah Jupe, Mandy Patinkin, Natasia Demetriou, Benedict Wong, Miranda Richardson and Aasif Mandvi.

The Magician’s Elephant was added to Netflix today.

Waco: American Apocalypse (Limited Series)

If you don’t know anything about the 51-day siege that involved the largest gunfight ever fought on US soil…well, I’ve got the documentaries for you. Waco: American Apocalypse follows dangerous cult leader David Doresh’s wild confrontation with the police in never-before-seen footage. The limited series was directed by Tiller Russell.

Waco: American Apocalypse will be added to Netflix on March 22, 2023.

carol (2015)

Carol is a captivating and poignant love story between two women (Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara) set in the 1950s. With breathtaking performances, exquisite cinematography and haunting music, it explores the complexities of human relationships and the courage to follow your heart in a world that often tries to suffocate you. The film also stars Sarah Paulson, Jake Lacy and Kyle Chandler.

Carol was added to Netflix today.

The Night Agent (Season 1)

With crime dramas all the rage these days, it’s no surprise that Netflix continues to come up with its own offerings. And the most intriguing option for quite some time, it seems The night agent, which follows Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), an FBI agent unexpectedly drawn into a deadly conspiracy involving a White House mole. The show also stars Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, DB Woodside, Enrique Murciano and Eve Harlow.

Season 1 of The night agent will be added to Netflix on March 23.

Furies (2023)

The most action packed option available this weekend definitely has to be furies, a Vietnamese action film that promises plenty of combat. The film centers on a mysterious woman who trains three girls to get revenge on a gang that routinely abuses other women. The film was directed by Veronica Ngo and stars Dong Anh Quynh, Toc Tien, Rima Thanh Vy, Thuan Nguyen, Song Luan, Gi A Nguyen and Phan Thanh Hien.
