The best of a new community in an established area

Tim Hinschberger not only bought a new Cantiro house, he built it – at least part of it.

Hinschberger, a frame builder by trade, had included in the contract that he and his crew would frame the house his family was going to build in Castlebrook.
“It means a lot to my wife (Courtney) that we live in a house that her husband built and that (our) future children know that their father built the house they live in,” said Hinschberger, who has designed countless homes in Edmonton and Calgary over the last 15 years for various builders. “That’s what her grandfather did for her family.”
As it turns out, Courtney’s grandfather was a carpenter.
“So he built houses for my family,” added Courtney, who said she continues that tradition.
Their home in Castlebrook, north Edmonton – a new community on a promontory that was once a farming field and is now surrounded by developed neighborhoods, officially known as Cantiro Homes at Castlebrook – is Cantiro’s Entertain Elevate 20 model, a front-wheel drive single Single family home measuring 1,868 square feet with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms.

“The Entertain Elevate model has the perfect combination of wow factor and function,” said Geoffrey McKay, Cantiro Area Sales Manager in Castlebrook.
“It has a raised kitchen area and a sunken living room with 11-foot ceilings,” he said, noting that the overall space with two kitchen islands is great for entertaining.
There are also large secondary bedrooms on the upper level, McKay said, and the bonus room on the same floor is a great second living room perfect for movie or game nights.
“If you enjoy entertaining, this home is an entertainer’s dream,” said McKay.
“When I saw the show at home (at The Hills at Charlesworth), I just loved it,” Courtney said. “It had everything we were looking for.”
Just a few of the features that attracted the Hinschbergers are the flow openness on the ground floor from the kitchen to the living room, the large area of the living room windows adding natural light, and how perfect the home is for entertaining and raising family.

For finishing, the couple chose Cantiro’s Obsidian offering – one of four curated options.
Inspired by soft industrial design, Obsidian is described as moody and bold with darker elements balanced by lighter finishes and urban designs featuring organic materials. Think black and walnut cabinets, black marble tiles and sleek black handles paired with the softer grays and whites of the floors and countertops.
They liked the way the dark colors of obsidian accentuate the lighter walls, that the laminate flooring has a marble-like appearance, and that the wood cabinets soften the black surfaces.
But it wasn’t just the house and its finishes that made the Hinschbergers choose Castlebrook. Location was a key factor.

“When I found out Cantiro had bought land in Castlebrook, I jumped on it pretty quickly,” said Tim. “We were the first house sold.”
Not only did they want a location in North Edmonton, but they wanted new construction and preferred a community where everything — schools, health care, grocery stores and more — was easily accessible, and Castlebrook ticked all the boxes.
Also, through Tim’s framing work, Tim knew the ins and outs of living in a brand new community where construction could go on for 10 years. However, as Castlebrook is much smaller and the amenities are already in place, the construction schedule would be preferable and much shorter.
“We don’t have to worry about building roads or facilities anymore as it’s all done,” said Tim, adding easy access to the Anthony Henday is also important.

As for designing his own home, Tim said it’s a brand new experience.
“Definitely the first time ever for me; I brought my wife a lot so she could see every single stage as we rode,” said Tim of the house they moved into last December. “It doesn’t really add up until I really think about it… just because of the hundreds of homes I’ve made in my time.”
New and yet mature
When all is said and done, Cantiro’s new community of Castlebrook will have 97 homes, all single family homes with attached garages.
The show home Family Flow 24 – Cantiros Life Collection actually offers three different series of houses, each tailored to a lifestyle: family, career or entertainment – opened last June and is also being built by Cantiro, the community’s sole developer.
One of the best parts of Castlebrook, McKay said, is that it’s a small piece of land in a mature area that gives you all the perks of a brand new home but with the perks of a resale home that has everything already in place.
The starting price for homes in Castlebrook is $499,900 including land and GST.
