The Flash Just Referenced The Best Line From Michael Keaton’s Batman, And Now I Need To Rewatch The 1989 Movie

Warning! The following contains spoilers for The Lightning Season 9 episode “The Mask of the Red Death”. Read at your own risk!
Javicia Leslie‘S red death has officially arrived The Lightningand while she still isn’t Batman, she uses some of his most iconic lines. Not only did the character recite the iconic “I am vengeance” line in the latest episode, but she also churned out a classic quote from 1989 Batman that stared Michael Keaton. Even if the CW series didn’t get the actor to show himself in person The Lightning movies Ezra Miller Once upon a time, recycling this iconic line was just the next best thing. And I’m ready for a repeat of Keaton’s first film as Batman!
The scene in question occurred when iris met with who she initially thought he was Ryan Wilder hoping to enlist the help of Team Flash to battle their doppelganger, Red Death. Unfortunately, however, Iris is a mad journalist and quickly deduced that the woman wasn’t the Ryan she knew, but actually Red Death. The villain, realizing the contraption was complete, slowly donned her speedster armor and dropped this dooy of a line on Mrs. West-Allen:
You wanna get nuts? Come on, let’s go crazy.
It is still early The Lightning Season 9 but I think this might go down as one of my favorite scenes of the season. It suited the seriousness of the situation perfectly and in no way seemed forced into the scene. Of course, it also reminded me of the iconic scene between Bruce Wayne and the Joker in the apartment in the 1989s Batmanwhich always puts a smile on my face.
Iris had a gun aimed at Red Death, but unfortunately didn’t answer the villain’s question with: “You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?” Seemingly, The Lightning Writers could only go so far by referencing the classic film and I applaud them for going as far as they did!
Plus, it gave me the perfect excuse to look up the original scene online since I don’t currently have the time to devour it with my HBO Max subscription:
What a great movie! Hopefully The Lightning Pulling it off means only good things for the rest of Season 9. This season has already convinced me recently, when it may have turned unintentionally Murderous Frost And Caitlin Snow Storyline to a grand homage to a classic star trek Consequence. Now we’re getting quotes from classic Batman movies? The final seasons are often full of Easter eggs and fan service, and we’ve been blessed to get two solid callbacks in this episode.
The question is how many more Batman references will be snuck in The Lightning Season 9? The Arrowverse has done everything it can to pay homage to The Dark Knight over the years, despite never seeming able to actually use him outside of a crisis. Still, it’s cool to see Red Death after that teasing so long ago, and if we’re lucky we’ll keep getting references as long as she’s in the mix.
The Lightning airs new episodes on The CW on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. We’re almost a third of the way through the final season, so now’s the perfect time to catch up and watch along. It’s also a good time to look at the 2023 television schedule and see what other shows are coming when it’s over.
