The latest on Erling Haaland’s Real Madrid release clause – 101 Great Goals
Manchester City have received a major boost as it emerged that the release clause reported by Erling Haaland no longer applies thanks to the work of boss Pep Guardiola.
The Norwegian striker joined the Premier League this summer and has taken the English top flight by storm, scoring 28 goals in 26 games for the Cityzens as they battled Arsenal for the title this season.
However, early reports suggested he wasn’t planning on staying long at Manchester as there was reportedly a release clause in his contract that would allow him to join Real Madrid for €175m from summer 2024.

However, this has since changed. According to Goal, the Norwegian no longer has such a clause in his contract. Why? Because of Pep Guardiola.
According to the report, “Both parties agreed that Haaland should stay at City for another year if Guardiola leaves in 2023, with another manager able to activate that clause in 2024.”
However, Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2025 has resulted in the clause no longer being valid, leaving Haaland with no firm way out before his contract expires in 2027.
Los Blancos have, of course, already landed teenage sensation Endrick and agreed a €60m deal for the 16-year-old, which will see him join the Santiago Bernabeu from Palmeiras in the summer of 2024.
And as part of that deal, it was reported that the two parties had agreed an “anti-Haaland” clause to prevent Real from signing a similar attacker in the near future.
They are also rumored to still be keen on Kylian Mbappe, who dodged them last summer but are believed to be pondering his future after Paris Saint Germain were eliminated again in the early knockout stage of the Champions League.
