These are the 9 best cars for families in 2023, according to U.S. News

US News & World Report on Tuesday released its 2023 Best Cars for Families list, which was created by evaluating 92 vehicles to select the top family-friendly models in nine categories, including sport utility vehicles, electric vehicles and minivans.

US News Best Cars, US News & World Report’s automotive channel, has maintained this “Best Cars” list since 2007 and ranks vehicles based on a variety of factors, including: safety and reliability ratings, seating and cargo space, and family-friendly features like wireless internet in the Auto and touchless cargo doors.

The report does not select a single “winner” but instead highlights nine winners by category, which can be found below:

Best 2-row SUV for families: 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe
Best Hybrid Car for Families: 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Best Minivan for Family: 2023 Honda Odyssey
Best midsize car for families: 2023 Kia K5
Best large SUV for families: 2023 Chevrolet Suburban
Best Electric Vehicle for Families: 2023 Kia EV6
Best Hybrid SUV for Families: 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
Best Compact SUV for Families: 2023 Hyundai Tucson
Best 3-row SUV for families: 2023 Kia Telluride



won the most awards in 2023, taking first place in three categories including midsize, electric and three-row SUV. Toyota

Each won two awards, with Toyota winning Best Hybrid Car and Best Hybrid SUV, while Hyundai walked away with Best Two-Round SUV and Best Compact SUV. And the Honda


Odyssey was named Best Minivan for Families for the 13th year in a row.

“Our 2023 Best Cars for Families offer the features, safety and space that will appeal to new parents as well as parents with teenage drivers or households with grandparents,” said Jim Sharifi, editor-in-chief of the US News Best Cars list, in a statement. “Additionally, each winner includes a strong list of family-centric features.”

Tech features — like automatic emergency braking, backup cameras, and teen driver controls to help parents monitor new drivers — remain a top selling point for car-buying families, US News Best Cars said.

The list of best cars for families comes as Americans will buy slightly more new cars in 2023 than they did in 2022, according to the Kelley Blue Book, even as new car and auto insurance prices continue to rise.

“New vehicle prices remain high, while used vehicle retail prices are now declining,” said Charlie Chesbrough, senior economist at Cox Automotive, parent company of Kelley Blue Book. “New stocks are slowly stabilizing while used stocks are declining.”
