Before players learn how to properly sacrifice souls, it is helpful to learn how they are actually obtained throughout the game. Although Souls are exclusive to the Warriors of Chaos, the nature of Souls as a currency means that their acquisition is widespread throughout the game’s numerous mechanics. If players want to gain souls, they should consider the following methods:
- Battle: Players automatically gain souls for winning battles against any type of enemy they face, similar to how Chaos Space Marines work WH40K. The “Sacrifice Prisoners” option is tailored specifically for this use.
- Events: Dilemmas and Eye of the Gods can earn some souls for the warriors depending on their performance and success.
- Settlement registration: When players conquer a settlement, they can conquer souls using the Occupy and Vassalize, Destroy, and Subjugate options.
- Faction Specific Mechanics: Certain factions within the Warriors of Chaos have special mechanics for acquiring souls. For example, Warhost of the Apocalypse gives players 25 souls per turn with each minion. Likewise, the Fekundites gain 25 souls when they spread a plague.
- Master’s degree (extra benefits): They can increase souls gained in battle by up to 10 percent.
- Soul Reaper (Path to Glory): This can increase souls gained in battle from 10% up to 15%.
- Capabilities: Certain lords have abilities that can potentially increase the number of souls gained in battle or from losses.
- Cull the Weak (technology): This special technology increases souls gained in battle by 20 percent.
How to sacrifice souls
As part of the gameplay of Total war; Warhammer 3, sacrificing souls means spending them in various ways throughout the playthrough. Depending on which faction players choose, the method by which they spend or sacrifice souls can create various effects that can affect their long-term play. Here are the different ways players can sacrifice souls Total War: Warhammer 3:
Gifts of Chaos
Exclusive to the Warriors of Chaos, the Gifts of Chaos is a special tech-three that offers various boosts for factions within the Warriors of Chaos. These include providing various abilities and the ability to summon demonic entities, making them more fearsome than what WH40K suggesting memes. Similar to faction-specific features, the number of slots players can use to customize their Gifts of Chaos differs based on the factions they are using. Following the Soul mechanic, Gifts of Chaos has an initial cost to activate and a maintenance cost to obtain. Here is a general overview of gifts that players can access:
- Gifts of the Undivided: These are “generic” abilities that players can use to improve their playthrough. They don’t necessarily cater to any particular playstyle, but are more of a “safe” choice that players need to have to test out the mechanics.
- Gifts from Khorne: These are more inclined to help combat-intensive players with their playthroughs, considering their pre- and post-combat effects.
- Gifts of Nurgle: These are more suited to players who prefer to overwhelm enemies with sheer numbers and have a penchant for long-range combat with better melee defense.
- Gifts from Slaanesh: These are more suited to players who enjoy fighting up close while maintaining constant control over their strategies in combat. This has a balance between resource intensive and combat intensive benefits.
- Gifts of the Tzeentch: These are research and magic oriented bonuses that help players develop their tech trees more efficiently and without much inconvenience.

Much like the Gifts of Chaos, the way to glory is another unique mechanic of Warriors of Chaos. This time around, heroes and lords can use their path to glory to “morph” into unique versions of Chaos God-themed beings and even demon princes, provided they can prove themselves worthy.
This is divided into two (2) parts. There are unlockable Boons of Chaos that activate after completing certain objectives, and only three (3) can be active at a time. In the meantime, sign of chaos cost souls and can transform characters into forms dedicated to the Chaos God, with the highest level in this group allowing them to become demon princes themselves, all based on their choice warhammer Fraction.
Seductive Influence
Unique specifically to the Seducers of Slaanesh faction is something called Seductive Influence. Compared to other factions within the Warriors of Chaos, the Slaanesh faction is not immediately hostile to other Order factions. Rather, the Seducers of Slaanesh can “build” a seductive hold on separate Beastmen, Elven, and Human factions. Likewise, factions have different levels of resistance to seductive influence.
In the context of using or sacrificing souls, this plays into the Dominate skill of the Decadent Hosts and Ecstatic Legions factions, which can make conquering territories much easier.
Unholy Manifestations (Shadow Legion)
Similar to the Gifts of Chaos, the Warriors of Chaos Factions also have something called them Unholy Manifestationseach of the four (4) Chaos Gods having supernatural “manifestations” of their incredible power that can be beneficial in various aspects of the game – regardless of the enemies it faces, be it the Skaven of Warhammer Fantasy or other factions.
Regarding sacrificing souls and unholy manifestations, this mechanic works specifically with the shadow legion. In lore, this is the Legion of the Ungol Prince, now a newly ascended demon prince after fully surrendering to the forces of doom. Technically, the Shadow Legion variant of Unholy Manifestations is acquired after defeating armies under the Chaos Gods, and costs souls to use.
