Vegas Vipers vs. Arlington Renegades live score, updates, highlights from the XFL’s first 2023 game

The XFL is officially back – again. Three years after the attempted restart was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, the league is attempting another comeback.

And his first game will feature two of possibly the better teams in the league, as the Arlington Renegades host the Vegas Vipers.

The Renegades have a solid roster led by legendary college coach Bob Stoops and good quarterback space. Many assumed Kyle Sloter — a former NFL preseason star who was named to the All-USFL team in 2022 — would be the team’s best offensive player, but it appears that Ball State quarterback Drew Plitt could get the first try at being the team’s quarterback.

The Vipers are coached by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson and own some high-end NFL talent. They are led by former Steelers speedster Martavis Bryant and Vic Beasley, who was an All-Pro pass rusher with the Falcons in 2016.

Vegas’ quarterback space may also be stronger than the Renegades’. Luis Perez was a breakout star in the AAF and, like Sloter, found success in the USFL last season. He expects to get the bulk of the reps while Brett Hundley — a longtime NFL backup — could flow into the rotation. However, he only joined the team a few weeks ago, so Perez will likely start.

XFL COVER:

It’s hard to predict how the Vipers and Renegades will fare without some real preseason action. But by the looks of it, this should be a good fight to kickstart the 2023 XFL season.
