Weezer’s latest music video was shot using a single 360 camera
Best known for their iconic tracks “Buddy Holly” and “Beverley Hills,” Weezer have been a staple in the music industry for over two decades and won’t be stopping anytime soon. The geek-rock outfit has released two new music videos, both directed by Peter Quinn, as well as the grunge-inspired track “What Happens After You?”. was shot with an Insta360 ONE RS 1-inch 360 Edition.

However, the most recent visual effects collaboration sees Quinn and American rock band Weezer create the quartet’s new music video for “What Happens After You?”. Filmed in a music studio with just Quinn, frontman Rivers Cuomo and an Insta 360 camera, specifically the Insta360 ONE RS 1-inch 360 Edition (opens in new tab).
With the ability to capture 6K 360 video and 21MP stills, this camera is undoubtedly perfect for creating a high-quality music video, even when hand-held! The camera’s dual 1-inch CMOS sensors are a big step up from typical phone-sized sensors and can also be mounted on its own invisible selfie stick (opens in new tab) for that seamless look, or on a standard tripod or mount for dynamic action footage.
The music video is very cleverly shot, capturing every angle of Weezer’s studio after he has cloned band member Rivers Cuomo multiple times in different scenarios, from playing the drums on sofa cushions, lying on the floor, a solo dance session, to the light shining his eyes in the corner of the room and plays several instruments, including the piano.

It’s great that all of the cloned Cuomos appear to be interacting and looking at the camera at the same points in the footage as the track picks up the pace with a drop off towards the end, as Quinn puts it in conversation (opens in new tab) Insta360: “My challenge was just having one person, but wanting the dynamic feel of a full band performance… the Insta360 camera was the ONLY way to film this.”
Quinn had Cuomo play various instruments at predefined locations in the studio and then used Adobe After Effects (opens in new tab) Plugin for Insta360 reframing. Quinn was then tasked with merging all the takes and masking the footage. At this point, it was just a matter of choosing which Cuomo clone to focus on for each part of the track.
Weezer’s debut and arguably their best self-titled Blue album cover can also be seen on the monitor screen behind Cuomo, giving the video a nice nostalgic touch overall. The video’s lo-fi vibes and Cuomo’s diverse, odd-acting personalities also pair perfectly with the track’s lyrics.
“For example, when the song got more intense in the chorus, I quickly realigned the footage; rotate, zoom in, zoom out on “tiny planets” and then zoom in to a close-up; to create a dizzying, frenetic feeling,” Quinn explained.
The band’s newly released EP, titled SZNZ: Winter, was released back in December 2022 and rounded out a four-part seasonal EP project for the group for 2022, which blended a spectrum of sounds and tones reflecting each season, with the Summer issue-like tracks include older and now 13-year-old fan-favorite singles such as island in the sun And Say it’s not like that.
