West Ham have reportedly offered £80k-a-week contract to ‘world-class’ Matheus Nunes

West Ham have offered to sixfold Matheus Nunes’ salary to tempt him to join the London Stadium.

This emerges from a report by a Portuguese football journalist Bruno Andrade who claims the Hammers were willing to pay Sporting €35m (£30m) plus a 15 per cent sell clause.

West Ham manager David Moyes urgently needs to bolster his central midfield options at the London Stadium before the transfer window hits.

The Scot has already signed Flynn Downes from Swansea but he undoubtedly needs to bring more quality.

Nunes would have been the ideal addition to West Ham – he’s a real elite player.

Pep Guardiola once described the 23-year-old as one of the best players in the world.

It seems the Hammers aren’t yet at the level needed to attract players like Nunes…

West Ham made Matheus Nunes a big salary offer

Bruno Andrade reckons the Hammers were willing to offer the 23-year-old six times what he earns at Sporting:

Nunes is currently making £13,000-a-week at Sporting (Salary Sport) so it seems like the Hammers would be willing to pay him around £80,000-a-week.

Unfortunately, that obviously wasn’t enough to draw the Portuguese star to the London stadium.

Nunes would have been a stunning signing for West Ham.

At 23 and 6 feet tall, Nunes fits perfectly into the profile of the player Moyes needs to add to his ranks.

The Portugal international scored four goals and four assists in 50 games for Sporting last season (Transfermarkt).

In 33 league games for Sporting last season, Nunes averaged 1.3 tackles per game. During those appearances, the 23-year-old averaged 42.4 passes per game and recorded an impressive 86.2% completion rate (Who Scored).

He has been described by The Hard Tackle as a potential “world class” player.

He can play as a defensive midfielder, in a more orthodox central role, or even as a number 10.

The Portuguese ace has exceptional technical ability and is great at getting the ball in tight spaces. He clearly has the physical ability to be successful in the Premier League as well.

However, Matheus Nunes is unlikely to join West Ham. We believe his next move will be to a Champions League club in England. And that’s really unfortunate for us.
