From the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean to the dramatic seaside cliffs and black sands of Iceland, people love to travel where the land meets the sea. With countless beaches around the world, which are the most popular with travellers?

Tripadvisor, the world’s largest travel advice platform, has just announced its Best of the Best Beaches for 2023 as part of its annual Travelers’ Choice Awards. To determine the list, Tripadvisor analyzed millions of reviews from beaches around the world, looking in particular at “the quality and quantity of beach experience reviews”.

Picturesque tropical destinations weren’t the only ones on the list.

“In addition to the popular beaches of Hawaii, the Caribbean, and mainland Europe, our community really wants to elevate their experience by hugging the cliffs of Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast of the western United States and cooler destinations like Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland.” , said Sarah Firshein, chief editorial officer at Tripadvisor, in a statement.

“Whether you want to pack a windbreaker or a bathing suit, our list has something for a wide range of travelers – and it might convince even the most ardent beach skeptics to spend some time on the sand.”

1. Baia do Sancho – Fernando de Noronha, Brazil

Flanked by cliffs, this secluded crescent-shaped beach sits in a bay on Fernando de Noronha, a pristine island off Brazil’s north coast that’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can only be reached by a set of old ladders that you pay a fee to visit. The clear waters that surround the island are a national marine park, making it a paradise for divers and snorkelers.

2. Eagle Beach – Aruba, Caribbean

As the widest beach on Aruba, Eagle Beach offers guests plenty of space to spread out and soak up the sun. The soft white sand and gentle warm water make it idyllic for relaxing, but it’s also popular for water sports like jet skiing. Being on the western part of the island, the beach with the leaning divi divi trees has become a famous place to watch the sunset.

3. Cable Beach – Broome, Australia

Located on the Indian Ocean, Cable Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Western Australia. The flat, white-sand beach stretches for almost 14 miles and blends seamlessly with the blue water. The beach is known for its beautiful sunsets and camel rides. At one end of the beach is Gantheaume Point, known for its redstone cliffs and fossilized dinosaur footprints that are visible at low tide.

4. Reynisfjara Beach – Vik, Iceland

A bathing suit is not required to visit Iceland’s striking Reynisfjara Beach, you may want a jacket instead. This year the beach made its debut on the list. Tourists enjoy admiring the powerful waves (sometimes up to 40 feet), rock pinnacles, basalt columns, and black sand made of volcanic ash and dark rocks.

5. Grace Bay Beach – Turks and Caicos Islands, Caribbean

This beach is consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the world because it looks like something out of a postcard. This tranquil beach faces the gentle Caribbean Sea and is protected by a barrier reef. It is ideal for wading or water sports such as kayaking or paddle boarding.

6. Praia da Falesia – Olhos de Agua, Portugal

Praia da Falésia is known for its stunning beauty as nature offers some of its best contrasting tones for humans to absorb. From the sand, beachgoers can look up and come face to face with the red and orange cliffs. Green pine trees and pink asparagus flowers stand at the top of the cliffs, which you can hike up via a hiking trail.

7. Radhanagar Beach – Havelock Island, India

Located on one of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Radhanagar Beach is accessible by seaplane or boat. It’s surrounded by dense foliage, adding to the secluded feel of the beach. Offering travelers calm waters to enjoy and vibrant coral reefs to explore, it is often considered the best beach in India and even Asia.

8. Spiaggia dei Conigli – Sicily, Italy

Though stunning, it’s exhausting to visit Spiaggia dei Conigli, a beach with clear blue waters located on Lampedusa, an island closer to Tunisia than Sicily. Many Tripadvisor users compared this beach to somewhere in the Maldives, not Europe. The long strip of sand is one of the few places in Italy where loggerhead turtles lay their eggs in summer.

9. Varadero Beach – Cuba, Caribbean

For several years, Varadero Beach has earned a place on the list of the best beaches for 2023. Located about two hours from Havana, Varadero Beach is also called Blue Beach because the ocean looks blue against the white sand.

10. Kaanapali Beach – Maui, Hawaii

The only beach in the US to make the list, the three-mile long Kaanapali Beach is known for offering everything a beach-goer could wish for: clear, year-round warm water, surfing, cliff jumping, snorkeling, Catamaran Tours and more. In winter you can even spot humpback whales on the horizon.
