The Dolphins got off to an impressive start to the campaign, defeating the Patriots, Ravens and Bills to remain perfect through the first three weeks. The win over the Bills was particularly impressive as Buffalo had looked like the class of the NFL before the AFC East opponents met in Week 3.
However, there are some questions about the availability of starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who bore the brunt of a big hit in the win over the Bills and looked dazed, although the 24-year-old is not on the record with a concussion. Instead, Tagovailoa is reportedly struggling with a back injury that could keep him out of the line-up, although the QB told reporters earlier this week that he intends to play the Bengals tonight.
If Tagovailoa didn’t make the quick turn, Teddy Bridgewater would step in and take the snaps for the dolphins.
“It’s a tricky scenario, luckily it’s one of the reasons we’re so lucky to have Teddy,” Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday. “But if this was real practice in a normal week, Tua would be limited and questionable for the game.
“It’s only when he speaks to me that I can tell from his voice that he’ll do literally anything he can and is in his power, so collectively… I know he’ll do anything to play, so will.” I know if he doesn’t play that it literally wasn’t possible.”
Regardless of who starts for Miami, the Dolphins will have their hands full if a Bengals team is to clinch a 27-12 win over the Jets. Both losses to the 2-1 Bengals came with three points, so the AFC North team knows how to keep things tight.
