For the first time in 17 seasons of Hard Knocks, the Detroit Lions will be the subject of HBO’s popular sports documentary show.
Since the Lions are the subject of the preseason edition of Hard Knocks, the HBO show has officially documented all eight divisions of the NFL. The Packers, Vikings and Bears are all yet to appear on the show. No team has been featured more than the Cowboys, who have appeared as subjects three times.
The Lions were a frequent pick as a sleeper team in 2022 after a stellar NFL draft, some impressive second-half performances and the fiery Dan Campbell coaching the team into its sophomore season.
Ahead of the 2022 NFL season, NFL fans will get a behind-the-scenes look at Lions camp as they prepare for their highly anticipated season.

Are the Lions everyone’s favorite sleepers in the NFL right now?
Despite ending 2021 with the second-worst record in the NFL at 3-13-1, optimism is brewing in Detroit that the Lions could be on the rise. In the last six games of the season, rookie wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown broke out with 560 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 51 receptions. In his last five games of 2021, quarterback Jared Goff completed 69.6 percent of his passes for 1,136 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and five picks.
A critically acclaimed draft and the return of key players like St. Brown, D’Andre Swift and TJ Hockenson have many believing the Lions will be in 2022. Detroit nabbed Michigan EDGE Aidan Hutchinson with the second pick overall and later traded with the Vikings to pick Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams to put together one of the most exciting first rounds in the draft.
In free agency, the Lions signed wide receiver DJ Chark to a one-year deal to round out top guns for Goff as Swift, St. Brown, Williams, Chark and Hockenson, and they improved defense after conceding second-most points and fourth most yards in a season.
