What time is UFC 278 today? PPV schedule, main card start time for Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards 2

Will there be a replay or revenge at UFC 278? Who Leaves Utah as the UFC Welterweight Champion? These are the big questions that will be asked when Kamaru Usman defends his title against Leon Edwards on August 20th.

This is a rematch from 2015 when Edwards lost to Usman. Their careers have taken interesting turns since, with Usman winning UFC gold and now considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC.

Edwards has emerged as a real contender and this is his first leap to UFC gold. “Rocky” wants to make the most of the opportunity. He has won nine fights in a row since that first loss to Usman and he believes now is the right time for him to show that he is a different fighter.

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy,” Edwards told MMA Junkie. “I want to take it away from him and I intend to do that. I’m not going in there looking for an easy fight. I’m going in there to beat the champion and become the champion. He was the last one to hit me. Everyone claims he’s pound for pound (at best). They say he can’t be beat. The timing is perfect and I can’t wait.”

Since his UFC debut in 2015, The Ultimate Fighter winner Usman has won 15-0. He is considered one of the most dominant fighters in UFC history, beating the likes of Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos, Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. He has defended the belt five times since winning the UFC welterweight title from Woodley in 2019. Usman’s last fight was another win over Covington in November.

Usman recently had an operation on his hand.

Edwards has gone 11-1 with a no-contest for the UFC since losing his first fight for promotion. Since losing to Usman, he has won nine times in a row. The 30-year-old last fought in June 2021, beating Nate Diaz at UFC 263. After years of patience, Edwards is now getting his time to shine.
