Does a league of its own have the same storyline as the movie?

Many die-hard fans feel discouraged from giving a remake a shot if it’s inspired by their favorite series or movie. However, we’re happy to report that this release won’t just be a beat-by-beat remake of the original. Although the Prime Video series also travels back to 1942, amid the tensions of World War II, the show places a special emphasis on discussing race and queerness. While the women’s league emerges and shows that they are willing to work hard, the series also focuses on other professional baseball players who are not chosen to join the team. These storyline additions were made to increase its relevance in our current social context. Here’s what the show’s co-creator Will Graham had to say to Entertainment Weekly about the decision to increase diversity on the show:

“We grew up watching film, and the more we began to explore the true stories behind it, the more we saw that there was an opportunity here to tell a story that was broader and included many perspectives that the first time around weren’t there – but with the same sense of heart and humor and unpretentious fun that everyone loves about the film.

Collider’s own Rebecca Landman shared her thoughts on inner inclusion A league of its own in the review published on August 10th. Here’s an excerpt of why the series earned an A+ rating:

“What really makes this series sing is the how A league of its own presents a dynamic landscape of queer stories. Throughout the series, pursuing dreams of playing professional baseball leads to players falling in love, family ties being tested, and people’s identities and gender expressions coming into sharper focus.

After getting their roles, the wrestlers realize that working together might be harder than they thought. GLOW Completed in 2019, meaning seasons 1-3 can all be watched at once.
