Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 28?

The consistency of Harry Kane (£11.7m) makes him the standout captain in the Fantasy Premier League’s Blank Gameweek 28.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward has not played back two consecutive games this season and is second in the players’ standings with 176 points.
Kane visits Southampton with a 13-point win over Nottingham Forest, his fifth double-digit result this season.
Away from home, his 47 shots and 32 shots inside the box put him among the top two players in fantasy this season.
Arsenal pair Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) are the strongest alternatives for their home game against Crystal Palace.
Offensive threat in the last four weeks of games
player | shots | recordings in the box | Great Opportunities | created opportunities |
---|---|---|---|---|
Martinelli | 14 | 13 | 6 | 5 |
Kane | 12 | 7 | 3 | 4 |
sake | 15 | 9 | 1 | 8th |
Martinelli has been the Gunners’ top performer in Fantasy of late, scoring five goals and bringing up 42 points in five games over the past four weeks as team leader.
Crucially, his performance was boosted by a change in tactics from manager Mikel Arteta following the home defeat to Manchester City in matchweek 23.
Arteta started signing in January Leandro Trossard (£6.6million) up front, giving the versatile Belgian freedom to roam onto Martinelli’s left flank.
This has allowed Martinelli to occupy more central areas and he is thriving on his improved quality of scoring chances.
Martinelli had six big chances in the last four weeks of games, five of which he converted. In contrast, Saka had only one big chance in the same period and failed to score from it.
While this gives Martinelli the edge over Saka as the top Arsenal player to captain, Kane’s importance to Spurs is crucial to how managers should consider their captaincy.
Goal involvement in the last four match weeks
player | Goals | assists | involvement in the goal |
---|---|---|---|
Kane | 2 | 1 | 57% |
Martinelli | 5 | 0 | 38% |
sake | 2 | 1 | 20% |
Kane has two goals and one assist in the last four weeks of games, putting Martinelli ahead with five goals.
Yet Kane has scored or assisted 57 per cent of his side’s goals during that period, while Martinelli was involved in just 38 per cent of Arsenal’s goals.
When comparing the stats of players from different sides, fantasy managers need to remember that it’s a player’s contribution relative to that of their own teammates that determines bonus points.
22/23 goal contribution and bonus
player | involvement in the goal | bonus points |
---|---|---|
Kane | 53% | 30 |
sake | 34% | 13 |
Martinelli | 30% | 13 |
Kane is by far the Spurs’ most important offensive player and was involved in 53 percent of their goals all season when he was selected.
As a result, he has accumulated 30 bonus points in this campaign, more than any other player in Fantasy.
In contrast, Saka and Martinelli have scored 26 bonus points between them and been involved in 34 and 30 per cent of Arsenal’s goals respectively.
While all three are more than capable of big loot in Blank Gameweek 28, Kane is much more likely to get an extra bonus if his side scores.
That makes him the most reliable captain of the trio, while the in-form Martinelli is Arsenal’s best option.
Remember that the deadline for Gameweek 28 is Friday 17th March at 18:30 GMT
